Re: Bristol Palin's corrective jaw surgery

There is no way she could have had actual jaw surgery. Her teeth were perfectly lined up before and after. Genioplasty, yes. That is what I believe she had.

Re: Long face/mouth breathing syndrome; contemplating surger

Wow, I haven't been on these boards in ages - but am happy to reply. No, I never did get this all fixed. No other surgeon would touch me after having the first surgery. There is just too much risk for further nerve damage, plus I think they (the surgeons) are afraid to fix someone elses work. I even...

My orthodontist contoured mine slightly after my braces were removed. There is only so much they can do, but still it helped. I know what you are saying about the "big" teeth. I felt like I looked like Jim Carrey from "The Mask" after, but my friends assured me I did not!

I've had my braces off for about 3 months and if I have my retainers off for 1-2 hours - I can definitely feel that they are tight putting them back on. I try to not have them off for more than an hour while I'm eating. I know if I left them off for 4-6 hours they probably would be very hard to get ...

Elspeth, Please don't blame yourself. We go to these doctors expecting they are going to do the right thing. I have constantly felt like a complainer with my orthodontist and I've hated feeling like the "bad guy." Just don't give up. Definitely confront your orthodontist and ask direct que...

Dunno how it will affect anything right at the moment (the government will need time to drive all of the insurance companies out of business and forve everyone onto socialized medicine), but in the future you can expect a long wait, poor treatment (if Uncle Sam evendeems you worthy of the surgery a...

Yes, yes, yes - get a second opinion. I went to my city's top orthodontist and he recommended two surgeons. I only went to the one and felt totally comfortable with him and my orthodontist seemed so pleased with my decision. So, I have the surgery - lower jaw (BSSO) only to find out later I should h...

Sounds like an overjet. SARPE should be able to correct it. Only your orthodontist can predict accurately whether it will fix it completely without the need for further surgery. I think maybe chigago29 meant only your "Oral Surgeon" can predict this, not your orthodontist. Also, I would d...

I am also so sorry you went through this. I had a bad experience here in the U.S. My screws are all securely in place - I just had the wrong jaw surgery! He did only my lower, when he should have done both jaws. I hope everything will work out for you in the end. What an ordeal you have been through.

1. I got used to mine very quickly. You may have a lisp for a day or two, but that's it. 2. No, mine does not feel like wearing braces at all - and I like that you can't see it. 3. For the most part, I don't have any problem with food getting stuck. I, however, use a waterpik every night to get out ...

Wow, that's amazing! I'm asking because I had lower jaw surgery in 2008, only to find out I should have had upper jaw surgery, too. I still am faced with poor breathing (through my nose), recessed chin and a bit of lip incompetence. I'm 48 yrs old, so did not elect to go through another surgery beca...

Can this be fixed by tweaking retainer??

I just got my hawley retainers last week, but noticed right after that my left front tooth protrudes more than my right. Is this something that can be corrected with my retainer? This must have been how things were with my braces; however, it's something that wasn't noticeable to me until they were ...
