Re: Surgeries with Arnett/Gunson Anyone?
I had surgery with Drs. Gunson and Arnett earlier this year, and it went solid. Counter to the post above about them pushing invasive procedures, Drs. Gunson and Arnett prescribe only what they feel will work best which may be more to less complex. In my case, Drs. Gunsong and Arnett corrected a poo...

@ORHTO12: You definitely are not alone in being unhappy with the unsatisfactory results. I just saw a top expert in the U.S. for my misplaced jaw and 30% of their operations are revisions from poor surgical techniques/outcomes. Poor results are not uncommon, and of course they are under-reported by ...

@smile: My consult with Dr. G was productive. We had an in depth conversation and he did seem confident. However I am still looking in the Chicago area for a skilled surgeon and am meeting with Dr. Heffez and Dr. Balcerak in the next few weeks. I am optimistic as my ortho has high recommendations fo...

@Mary: Wow, that's awesome that your ortho and Dr. G know each other that well. Jaw surgery really needs a solid team approach. I go to see him this Friday. I've met a number of good doctors here, I'm curious as to how these national experts set themselves apart. @Esoteric: I sent you a PM. I'd defi...

Good luck. Having a failboat of a surgery to fix sucks, but don't shortcut the redo because having to have a re-redo sucks even more. Cvn, wow I couldn't have put it better. @RyanVaugn: No worries! I'm shooting for this summer or sooner. @Mary: Thanks for the info, I'll be sure to say hi to Dr. G f...

Thanks for the info so far! In regards to my search for a surgeon in Chicago, as you can tell I've met a number of surgeons. After my experience with my first surgery (and septoplasty), I really want to have this done right. The original surgery plan was pretty straightforward, move the maxilla forw...

Revision surgery - Chicago student looking for top doc/ortho
Hi all, Long story short, I had a Lefort 1 for Class III (a mild form with anterior crossbite). The surgeon misplaced my jaw, and refused to correct the result. Yes, it has been a terrible experience. I will need a second or revision surgery and am looking for a top doc. I already had to get a septo...

Your nose does widen after surgery
Hi all, Your nose does widen as the surgeon releases the muscles around your nose during upper jaw surgery (the nasalis muscles which act to narrow your nose). An alar stitch may help but not always. I have seen plenty of cases where the nose widens dramatically and remains even after the swelling g...

Look into veneers. <--Most logical and easy solution. To lower your jaw is not a conventional surgery and would require bone grafts (usually from your hip). As well, your septum is connected to your maxilla, and down grafting it to show more teeth WILL affect your nose (possible loss of projection)....

Wilckodontics or TADs > Jaw surgery?
My ortho has tackled some pretty amazing cases. I've browsed through some of them and its shocking how well a bite can come together without surgery. (I think I could have avoided my previous and upcoming second jaw surgery). Have any of you looked into Wilckodontics or correction with TADs (tempora...
