Tooth Button with Hawley Retainer, need help
I had a clear button or bump added to one tooth to help pull it down a bit as part of my refinements. The retainer wire now sits on top of the button and it must be working because the tooth is feeling a little sore right now. Here's the problem. I don't know how to take the retainer out now. I str...

cleaning Hawley retainer
Both my current and past orthodontist said cleaning my Hawley with toothbrush and toothpaste is fine. Not sure about the claims that it creates micro scratches, they are made from a quite strong and durable type of plastic. As for using denture cleaner it can damage any solder. My current orthodonti...

Should I be concerned about Disking?
I'm going to be getting aligners for my twenty year orthodontic tune up. The orthodontist said he will need to make room for one of my lateral incisors by disking a small amount off a central incisor. He said he should only need to take off about 250 microns or 1/100 of an inch. That seemed like a v...

Anyone wearing ceramics with colors?
I noticed more than a few pics on this board and in person who have ceramic brackets with color ligs and power chains. Bright pinks and purples, so they must be feeling very confident about showing off their gear and soon to be awesome smiles. I'm wondering if anyone who done this now regrets paying...

Metal or ceramic brackets
I had ceramics on top, but if I had to pick over again I would go with metal. The ceramic brackets were much bigger than metal and I had several crack during the first month. The orthodontist said he had received a bad batch and had to replace every ceramic bracket on me and several other patients. ...

Waterpiks cant replace floss because of the nature of plaque
Waterpiks can't replace floss because of the nature of plaque Read the quote carefully: [ quote]Water jets are wonderful at reducing periodontal pathogens in pockets up to six millimeters and reducing bleeding and inflammation. For perio purposes, the motion of the water pulsing across the opening o...

Waterpiks $160 US in Australia?
Waterpiks $160US in Australia?
Why does Waterpik hate Aussie's so much? Did someone in coporate HQ try Marmite?
Couldn't you order one from the US or SE Asia and even with shipping/duty get one for under $100AUS?

Implant procedure and costs
Cost for my implant five years ago was a little over $2600; about $1950 to the oral surgeon for the post and around $650 to the dentist for the crown. I live in the Midwest, Detroit/Toledo area. Drugs were various antibiotics taken pre and post surgery, chlorhexidine gluconate rinse and painkillers ...

Who's teeth do you hope yours resemble after braces?
I've always been fascinated with Steve Bucemi's teeth
But I'm not one of the greatest character actors ever so I don't think that's the look I'm after.
Just like ellen I would be very happy going back to what I had after my first time in braces.

Implants and braces
I’m curious how implants are handled with regular braces. My back molar is an implant and I'm wondering if it would normally be banded or just left alone. Even if the implant doesn't get any gear would having a spacer next to it cause any problems? Since the implant cost $2500 and a lot of pain, p...

$5000 per implant is outragious
Prices do very across the country, but $5,000 each is too high. I had mine about five years ago. The oral surgeon charged about $1800 for the implant and the dentist charged around $600 for the crown. The first implant became infected and had to be removed. I had to wait three months before another ...

Very unlikely implants are covered by any insurance
When I had implants I had the best dental coverage around, mine as a public university employee and my spouse who was an auto worker. No coverage from either policy, nada, zip, not even for the crown. In fact crowns were ordinarily covered but not if used on an implant. Its a real crock because they...

Had similar situation, get a periodontist's opinion
I had a similar problem - bad and receided gums which were mostly due to over agressive brushing. My orthodontist had me consult with a periodontist before he would start anything. He said he recommended a perio consult to many of his adult patients. Maybe it was because they shared the same lobby o...
