Thanks guys!

It's weird - I can feel like scar tissue on the inside of my mouth. I think I can open my mouth about 1" now. Still a bit messy when I eat.. but working on it!

Can't wait to get these screws out... food just snags on them.

I can open my mouth!!!!

I got my bands off and can now open my mouth about a 1/2"! I'm a bit sore and have a headache from moving my jaw for the first time in 6 weeks, but all in all - I'm relieved. I ate some cottage cheese and cut a Cornish Pastie into tiny bits... for dessert, I had a Reese's Peanut Buttercup which...

Thanks for responding!

I bet my teeth are going to feel odd.

Couple other questions:
1. Will I be able to brush the back of my teeth immediately?
2. Will I be able to Floss?
3. Will I be able to eat?
4. Will I be able to speak normally?

Getting unwired tomorrow

Well, unbanded. I am banded shut and haven't been able to move for 6 weeks. Will my mouth/muscles hurt when the bands come off?

I'm wired too.. the funniest thing is my company that I work for is all about being "green" and our straws are made out of a sugar substance. They are great for cold fluids but melt in hot fluids.

I prefer the bendy straws. Less dribble.

Wow - wish I knew what to say. I had to go to my corporate Human Resources department for our insurance to pay to repair my broken jaw because it broke in the joint and all the medical codes were for TMJ disorder, which is not covered. My husband in now going through a similar issue. He had a pilon ...

Oh ok, thanks Cyn.

I know my surgeon is a good one, but honestly, he just doesn't give much info as to what to expect. Maybe they do that on purpose so you're not totally freaked out. Me? I like to know.

Cyn - how was your movement when you were un-banded... was your jaw stiff? Did it hurt to open your mouth? How was eating?

What to expect??

So, I am getting my bands cut off this Thursday (banded shut for 6 weeks now). Will there be much pain with movement? Will I be able to chew? Will I have to stick to mashed potatoes and other non-chew foods? If so, how long? Also, a week after the bands come off, I will be having the screws removed ...

OMG - I feel your pain... literally! I fractured my condyle and fragmented the disk in January of this year. We tried everything we could before doing surgery. On July 16, 2009, I had a modified condylotomy. Basically he cut the mandible in half on the right side and shifted it downward to make a sp...

Thanks for all the advice. I do pretty well when I am at home, blending organic soups and whatever my husband is eating for dinner...

I found a new place near work that does all natural smoothies. Today I am having soy milk , all natural peanut butter, bananas and protein powder smoothie.

Wired shut for 6-8 weeks... I'm on week 5 now.

I had no choice. I had a condylar fracture and fragmented disk... doc broke my jaw again and then reset it.
