General retainer cleaning...

I'm out of braces - hurray! Now I'm trying to figure out all the ins and outs of retainers... I'm currently using the Retainer Brite soak at night...but what the heck am I supposed to do the retainers (essix) the other times during the day I have my retainers out? Usually I just give them a quick br...

I'm not sure at all. If it is, it's very weird because it's my front teeth that are open. I was told that my molars were all fitting together fine. Hmmm. Hopefully I remember to ask the next time I'm in there!

Congrats and good luck on braces tomorrow! The lead-up to getting them on is the worst part - everything after is relatively easy. :)
you'll do just fine!

I've been wondering this as well. I have the box, except mine is is on my 4's and 6's. I was under the impression that my back teeth wouldn't really be needing elastics, so I'm just confused all around. :?

I survived! Now I'm just trying to adapt to these hunks of metal AND elastics. I guess they're starting me out gentle... parrots? What is the grading scale for these things? lol.

I think for right now, everything jsut feels WEIRD. Not really pain at all, just very very different.

Foaming toothpaste?

I've seen commercials for both Sensodyne and I think Crest advertising a new foaming toothpaste that's supposed to get EVERYWHERE in your mouth. Seems like it would be a great thing with braces. Has anyone tried these out yet? Or should I just stick with my regular ol' Crest?

Thanks Socksy! I think I pretty much have decided that the no-extraction is the better decision for me. Now I just have to get over my mental block with forking over that much money.

I tried Colgate Wisp for the first time yesterday and after reading everyone else's replies, I'm wondering if I somehow managed to do it wrong. Lol. The little bead never burst, just vaguely leaked and the bristles seemed too soft and didn't really, well... brush. I'll give it another whirl though a...

A little late, but I wanted to share my WaterPik love, too! Before I started using mine my gums bled almost every time I brushed, and my mouth just always felt a little yuck. About two weeks after starting to use it the bleeding had totally stopped and my mom actually asked if I had been to the dent...

Orthodontist Decision Making Time!

I had no idea that the first step of just PICKING an ortho would be such a tough decision to make. I've been on three consults and have narrowed down to two... 1) Traditional braces. Extractions: Either 4 premolars or 1 bottom central incisor (?), but must take records first to determine. 2 years in...

So glad I found this thread! I just got quoted 6900 for Damon's and was wondering if that was the norm. Looks like it depends on where you are - this ortho is right outside Washington DC, so I guess that has something to do with it.

UGHBRACES - I don't think the wisdom teeth are ever going to come out prettily, seeing as the bottoms are lying horizontal rather than vertical. :) But at least it is possible to work with the darn things in there! dentalguy - I've often wondered if dentists are yank-happy when it comes to wisdom te...

braces WITH wisdom teeth ... ???

On the recommendation of my dentist and two different orthos, I went to the oral surgeon today to see about getting my impacted wisdom teeth removed. It's his opinion that the risks would far outweight any benefits in my case, for a variety of reasons. (its amazing how much I've learned about my mou...

Blossom - Thanks for the response. It sounds like we share a lot of the same mouth issues, so I kinda feel hopeful. :) The office is closed today so Monday I'll be calling them to get in for a consult. gracey82 - I still can't make up my mind about ceramics. :?
