Re: What is double jaw surgery like one week post-op?

I was very tired, couldn't talk or eat, swollen and aching. sitting up and hunching over a desk for even 5 minutes would have caused me problems. Also, you won't be able to study for t...

Re: How do you get insured for this treatment? It's cosmetic
This surgery is not cosmetic. Anyone who thinks we would go through such major surgery for cosmetic reasons is wrong. How about the bite issues, pain, headaches, tooth erosion and loss, difficulty eating and sleeping...

Re: Spacers are horrible.
chewing through the tenderness actually helps, and if you can do that they won't hurt at all after the first few days.

Re: Were you physically sick after your jaw op?
Hi, I was sick after surgery due to blood in my stomach, quite a few times in the first day but not at all after that. They didn't band me shut until a day later. Don't worry, the hospital know how to look after you. x

Re: How long off work?
Hi, I was off work for 4 weeks, banded shut for 2. Going back to work was hard and tiring, but quickly became easier. I had surgery 1 week before christmas day! The initial estimate for total treatment time was 18-24 months, with surgery after 12-18 months. My treatment ended up taking a lot longer ...

Re: Uk Patients
Hey UK people! I'm also having double jaw surgery in the UK on NHS. I'm in the northwest, 25 and female. Had my braces on for nearly two years now and have my meeting with the surgeon on the 28th of this month. Apparently the waiting list for surgery is around a month so i'm hoping I get booked in ...

Re: Heres My Story
Hi, and congratulations on getting a surgery date! I had an overbite too, with receded chin. I had double jaw surgery 8 weeks ago, and i'm really glad i didn't just have the lower surgery. I think having both done gives a much nicer result. It does take more time in surgery and recovery, but so wort...

Re: HELP!!:/
Hi, sorry to hear about your troubles. you're already pretty prepared for the surgery if you;ve had your jaw wired shut for 6 weeks! that was the most frustrating part of my recovery, and only lasted 2 weeks. You'll be pretty swollen and numb for a few weeks, i didn't have much pain. I was quite wea...

good luck to you for your surgeries! bubbajade - my surgery took 6 hours, but you just have no comprehension of the time at all. one minute you're being put to sleep, the next minute it's 3 in the afternoon!

Re: What about sneezing?
i was terrified of sneezing after surgery due to being banded shut for 2 weeks. I just suppressed the urge to sneeze and it worked! the first time i did sneeze wasnt actually bad, and now that i'm unbanded it's fine. yawning isnt fun either, but that just suppresses aswell as you can't open your mou...

Re: December 2012 Buddies
so i had my first post-op appointment with the orthodontist yesterday, and they removed the bands and wafer, yay! i can open my mouth a little now, but that has brought some pain and discomfort. i also have a powerchain across the front top teeth to close a couple of gaps, and elastics on both sides...
