I understand your frustration but I think you should put things in perspective. I have students who have had braces for six years. I myself am 27 and only 3 months into my treatment. You are very lucky to have parents that can afford to get you braces. And rally six months is a drop in the bucket co...

Desperately in need of Nance advice!

I just had my nance installed today and I'm seriously considering asking my orthodontist to remove it. I'm a high school teacher so I need to speak all day long. The nance not only inhibits my ability to communicate, it also causes a great deal of pain as my tongue rubs against the metal supports. W...

Great Threader

I just bought Crest Glide Threader Floss. Its shred resistant, self threading floss and it works great! I highly recommend it

I would love to have any of the starlet smiles mentioned (outside of Steve Bushemi's) but I'm afraid to set an expectation because I have no idea what is going to happen. I had four extractions and I just don't see how they are going to close those gaps with the teeth I have left! At this point I wo...

Thank you for all the positive responses. It's amazing how much of a difference it makes to have support from people going through the same process :)

Disturbing Discussions

I went away on vacation last week and when I got back immediately logged in. I was upset to read so many complaints about having extractions and the perceived negative effects on people's physical appearances. I had four extractions and now I'm freaked out that my face is going to collapse or someth...

Well congrats on your progress :) I've been braced for a week and I check the mirror everyday for change...haven't noticed any which is discouraging.

After you saw significant change did your jaw stop aching? Mine aches all the time :(

You should definitely talk to your orthodontist about the rubber bands because it would stink to be pulling in the wrong direction. Also what exactly is a bite plate? What does it do?

Pain Pain and more Pain

Does anyone have any home remedies for the ache associated with wearing rubber bands? I'm on day five of wearing braces and bands and my mouth constantly aches. I had four teeth extracted last Friday so I have some prescription pain killers that I have been taking but I'm afraid of the ache after I ...

Have you been identified as an invisalign candidate? I'm pretty sure they are going to want to remove the wisdom teeth if you have crowding. I actually had my four wisdom and four additional teeth extracted to make room.

If you've been thinking about it do it! I'm 27 and I've had them for about a week. I'm not going to lie its hard not to be self conscious but I look at this way, I'd rather spend the next 24 months a little self conscious about my braces then the next sixty years self conscious about my teeth:) good...
