Apparently ceramic braces are more brittle so the ortho has to use less force to move the teeth so as not to break the brackets, which is why they are said to take longer than metal.
Not sure how accurate that information is, but that's what I found online.

Re: Frustrated
If it helps, I still had a space when I was debraced that was very quickly closed with my retainer. I was concerned about it too and thought that the way my teeth were on the last day of braces were the way they were going to stay forever, but then after a couple of days of nighttime-only retainer w...

Re: Jaw surgery...pros and cons? Help!!!
I was debanded a little over two weeks ago (I think you were one of the comments on my pictures so you've seen the results) and I'm definitely a case of the non-jaw surgery route and I'm very happy with the way everything turned out. The first ortho I went to suggested it...well basically screamed i...

Re: Debanded Today! (Pics)
Wow! Thanks for all the supportive and wonderful responses! This is such a fantastic community :D As for the questions: Ellebraced: Yes, treatment did go as planned. Despite having to have seven extractions I was very lucky. I was quoted at 18 months and got them removed at 18 months and 9 days. I d...

Debanded Today! (Pics)
Well, it took 7 extractions, 18 months and 9 days, but I finally have my smile back!! Today was my debanding day and I couldn't be happier with the results!! It's not perfection yet, one of my teeth was damaged before and the braces caused the damage to worsen and discolor the tooth. I'm getting a r...

Re: Do you get used to feeling of permanent retainer?
I wish I had an answer for you, I'm still wearing braces but will be getting them off and getting permanent retainers next Monday. I had no idea they were that annoying! Thanks for the heads up so I'm not expecting blissful comfort after walking out of the ortho office (as if that ever happens...) I...

Re: Braces - estimated times
I had a perfect estimate! Mine were estimated at 18 months and I'll be getting them off on the 28th which will make it 18 months and 9 days. Sometimes it all works out according to plan
I will NOT be missing them.

Re: How to be sexy braced
I'm not going to lie, I felt really terrible about myself for the first six months of being braced. I was having a rough time for other reasons and the braces only added to it. I refused to go out with friends and completely isolated myself, which of course only made things worse. The only thing tha...

Re: Has anyone had all premolars extracted? Opinions?
I had both my top premolars and one of my lower premolars removed (along with all four wisdom teeth) before I got braces. Not the most pleasant experience of my life but SO worth it! I love the look of my teeth now and I know there is no way I could have gotten here had I been stubborn and tried to ...

Re: February Debrace Club
I'm in the club!! Haven't been given a set date as of yet but my ortho says we'll set one after my next appt (Feb 3rd) and I'll definitely have them off by the end of Feb!! WOOOOO! :jump: I've been taking pictures of my progress every month so I'll post them once my teeth are out of jail! So excited...

Re: Unexpected extractions and treatment time?
I also had extractions that I wasn't expecting leading up to braces. Much like tashay, I expected to have all of my wisdom teeth extracted, but in addition to that I lost both of my upper pre molars and another tooth from the bottom (don't know the name of that one - sorry!) so I got to lose 7 teeth...

Just need a little encouragement...
Hey AW, I'm so glad I found this place because I really need to vent and everyone in my life is sick of hearing me talk about my braces (I keep getting "they're not a big deal" "we don't even notice them anymore" ...yeah, because they're not in YOUR mouth!). I'm almost done with ...

Re: The inevitable came true today- Elastics
I've had elastics for about three months now, thankfully I'm almost done treatment so I won't have them for much longer, and after a month my ortho told me to only wear them at night. I totally remember the agony of the first few days though, and feeling like I'm going through the pain of just getti...

Re: February Debrace Club
I'm supposed to be in this club! I was originally told I would be done around the same time as you (mid-feb) but that was about 16 months ago and I haven't been given a date yet...fingers crossed I'll be a february de-bracer!

Everyone has a different experience, but in my case I had to work the next day as well, and had to do a lot of talking and interacting with the public. It wasn't the most comfortable thing in the world and I found myself pronouncing things a little funny at times, but you just have to grin and bear ...
