Proud to be Streaking

I am very pleased to annouce that I am now naked! Yesterday morning my braces were taken off after a little over 3 years. Debanding was simple and relatively painless although I did almost choke on two brackets that got away from the assistant. I am now the proud owner of an Essix retainer for the t...

Five Weeks To Go!

I went yesterday for my millionth adjustment and I was told 4 weeks until my next appointment, a week of finishing elastics and then I'm done! Kind of frightened by the possible configurations I'll get  It'll be a little over 3 years (ETT of 18~24 months) from the time I started my journey, o...

Getting my wisdom teeth out was covered under medical insurance.. went to an oral surgeon and got the twilight sedation. All I had to pay was my normal office visit co-pay. HTH!

Ask & Ye Shall Receive

Just a random update..... I was at the ortho yesterday for my normal monthly adjustment and I asked the assistant if there was anyway we could coax the few gaps still remaining to close any faster. She both took of my wires out and said "Go brush your teeth, I have a plan!" When I get back...

Gum Over Molar Band

Hello all! I'm fast approaching my 2 year mark and I've noticed an increasing amount of gum tissue migrating over one of my molar bands as well as in between my canine and the tooth behind (the one in front of the molar with the band). I know things move, adjust, swell, etc as gaps, especially from ...

Wicked Adjustment Yesterday

I went in for what I thought was going to be the normal monthly adjustment, man was I wrong! I've had the same heavy duty wire for my top arch for going on 5 months for my powerchains, so when the assistant took it out I knew I was in trouble. Then when she asked for what I believe she called the &q...

I apologize but I neglected to mention that I've been wearing medium-light elastics (Chuck) as well for the past 4-5 months or so.

Why Arent Extraction Gaps Closing?

I had the #5 and & #12 teeth extracted in August of last year (along with #s 21 and 28 in September) and there is roughly a 5mm gap remaining as well as 3mm on the other side. I understand teeth can be stubborn but shouldn't the extraction gaps be closer to filling by now? I've had powerchains o...

A Step in the Right Direction

I had my adjustment today and finally got my powerchain off the bottom. In its place I have what seems to be a "braided" wire from molar band to molar band and regular ligs. On the top it's still the trusy ole' powerchain! 8) Those pesky extraction gaps don't seem to want to budge! I also ...

Could This Be A Problem?

Even before I got my top arch wired it seemed that the roots of my canines were always a little bit closer to the surface of my gum thus making that immediate area whiter. In the past I'd say month or so I've noticed the same thing on one of my canines on the bottom arch. Now grant it my extraction ...

I was bottle fed and had a pacifier as well. I have straight teeth and really the only problems I had were a HUGE gap between my front two teeth and a lower jaw that's 5mm too short which resulted in crowding and a deep bite. My 4-year-old daughter was bottle fed and had a pacifier and she has the E...

I've had elastics for about 2 months now and my ortho instructed me to change them every 12 hours, but admittedly now that I'm used to them I change them more freqently. Try to stick through the pain because the more you have them off the longer it will take for everything to settle down and for the...

I had a lower lingual arch for about 10 months and just had it cut out at my last adjustment. I didn't have any problems with it either and fortunately I've never had a problem with the band hooks. I would say something to your ortho to see if he/she can make things any more comfortable for you.

Was the Hygenist Blowing Smoke?

I may be slightly gullible  for even believing this BUT...I went to the dentist today for my normal cleaning (no cavities btw) and the hygenist made a comment as to why ppl have decalcification. She explained to me that it was due to illness or high fever in-utero or as an infant. It was my un...
