Teething gel. IT completely numbs the mouth for a good 30 minutes. It's usually enough time for me to comfortably fall asleep. They also make a adult variety of mouth sores.

Works like a charm. Swear by it.

In regards to your teeth hurting - mine hurt me for about 14 days (2 weeks) before I was able to consume anything of mild hardness. I'm a vegetarian as well so finding food to suit a soft pallet and tender teeth is difficult. So I recommend the following. Breakfast: Porridge or Oatmeal (made with ex...

I'm surprised no ones mentioned it.

The Waterpik. It's my lifeline as a brace wearer. It's a quick solution to getting the food out of my braces - perfectly with minimal embarrassment and fuss. And it keeps my gums healthy! It takes all of 2 - 5 minutes.

Extractions, no worries!

Hi! I've had braces on now for about 2 months now. I had my first adjustment on 1st March 2010 and I'm still waiting to have a canine and all my wisdom teeth removed. Don't worry about the pain. You will probably be numbed and gassed up to the eyeballs ^_^; The pain of an extraction I'm told depends...

I got a referral from my GP and it usually depends on the severity of your treatment for how long you wait. My first consult was in july - and i was braced 16th December 2009. So for me, there was practically no waiting at all. Treatment for me is going well so far. Wax distribution is fine. One con...

Wire number 2: or the thicker 'arch-wire' applied to your upper teeth applies more pressure to your teeth in order to align them. This is why it is called 'an adjustment' - they adjust the strength and size of your arch-wire in order to get your teeth to co-operate. As you go in for more and more ad...

Aw! come on! I know this is going to sound a little strange - but braces are seen as quite sexy these days!!! There's nothing wrong with smiling. Be proud of your braces! they say "I can cope with stupid amounts of pain and still smile! I am magnificent, bask in my glory!" Note: I am not v...

Aw! Great to hear you're eating okay Gary. :) It does get easier. I miss my the ability to easily chew things like sausages! It takes a while to adjust to the new bite and chew without nashing your teeth. :)

^^ Remember to smile! :P

Hope everyone's bracing is going well!

I know right now you are probably feeling like a horse has kicked you in the teeth; so I'm here to offer a little support. Oatmeal, mash potato, smoothies (including the vegetable kind), yoghurt, soups, and fish! (I found this a great way to get my vitamins and healthy food and the fish is small eno...

Hi all! Congrats on getting your braces. I've been braced for about a month now. :) I hope i can offer some great tips for you for the next couple of days. First: Buy a manual toothbrush. Treatment on NHS (fixed appliance)

The reason treatment is so fragmented at dental universities in the UK is because you only have 1hr alloted time and you dont get (christmas) treatment times (usually between 23rd - 4th jan). I've just had my fixed appliance done and it's alright. The only problem with NHS is that you don't have acc...

Hi, I'm getting my treatment at a Orthodontics College/University in London. My treatment is very fragmented  in terms on bits and bobs being fitted here and there. I've currently had my spacers fitted and my bands(anchors). I'm soon to get my elastics and my brackets fitted. They can be a lit...
