TMJ and jaw
The pain is all too real. I have horrible TMJ--to the point I'm afraid to fall asleep at night. I've posted my frustrations on Discouraging Consultation. I have a very deep overbite and overjet as well as asymetrical jaw. I am at the beginning of my quest and not getting much support for surgery; th...

UCLA Consultation/any advice?
The orthodontist I saw this morning at UCLA said he could do nothing to help me until the tmj issue is resolved. He actually said, contrary to Kaiser doc that I can't open my mouth completely. And unlike Kaiser doc, he said that relationship between bite and tmj is controversial--kaiser doc rejected...

Consultation Kaiser
Thanks for the careful advice; this forum is more helpful than I expected. I didn't have study models or xrays. I had just been referred by my primary physician. The surgeon asked me to open my mouth and move my jaw side to side. So, do I request another referral from my primary doctor or wait to se...

dvdrdiscs--could you mention if you have been aproved by Dr. Schwartz in L.A.? Thanks. I'm going to see the ortho before I try to convince Kaiser to help. I am stunned too by the reponse to my problem. When I asked the doc if I would have to be on muscle relaxants and pills for the rest of my life, ...

I consulted with Dr. Yafai. As far as I know, there is nobody else with LA Kaiser.
I appreciate the Gunson and Arnett recccomendations. That's a bit of a trip for me but considering the severity of the undertaking, well worth it.

LA Kaiser
I posted earler about Kaiser's rejecting surgery for my severe overbite, tmd problem etc. because doctor said surgery is only done these days for people who can barely open their mouths. So is his contention Kaiser's? Should I see another Kaiser Maxilofacial guy? I believe he's the only one in the L...

re discouraging consultation/doctor recs LA?
Thank you both for the encouragment. It really helps. I took the muscle relaxer last night since it was Friday and don't have to work Saturday. Good thing because the effects of that little pill are extremely lingering. I't's almost 1 pm and I'm stll woosy from it. That the solution to my bite probl...

Discouraging Consultation
I met with maxiofacial doc at Kaiser today who said that surgery is only performed on people who can barely open their mouths. Does anyone know where this is coming from? Severe tmj, overbite, and other problems only worsen. He wanted to give me a shot of steroids or botox right then and there an pr...

about age
Hello, I'm 52, in great health and much need of surgery on my jaw. I got a referral from doc to see surgeon, but I read a bit about surgery not performed on people in my age group. My issues though like many of yours I am sure, are progressive. TMJ becomes more painful, shooting pains on sides of fa...

Thank you for your response. Yes, what you say really only makes sense. My issues are beyond cosmetic. I have a lot of pain in lower left jaw despite the mouth guard. I still have ringing from the tmj. At this point I wake up a couple of times each night. My speech has deteriorated, especially -s so...

face lift dentstry
Hello, In lieu of geting orthognathic surgery, I have been considering Dr. Muslin's face lift dentistry in Santa Monica, CA. The before and after photos are amazing as are the reassurances about resolving my deep overbite and TMJ. All the reviews I have read of him are excellent. I can't help but wo...
