I get my lower metal braces installed on Monday. What I really don't like is the 'cleats' that are on the inside of the bands on my molars. It feels really sharp on my tongue. I'm with you, I think the clear brackets are not as sharp as the metal ones. I also hated the mouth spreader thing, I was so...

Today was the first day I let people know at my main work location. I didn't want to tell them in advance because they can be very gossipy and judgmental. Everything went ok. In fact, some people didn't know I had braces but they kind of looked at me funny, like something was different about me. I ...

Hi Bracy, I think we got our braces on the same day! This is my second time in braces. When I was in my twenties, they did pull 4 teeth before I had my first braces. I can't even remember how my teeth looked when the braces came off. My uppers are clear brackets too, I get my lowers on next Monday. ...

Getting the braces on was pretty easy and didn't take as long as I thought it would. I got the clear brackets on the front as well, I think when my spaces go away you won't really be able to tell I have them on! Make sure you have some soft food choices at home for a few days. And don't get discoura...

Welcome to the club! I am in the 50 and over crowd as well.

I don't have any personal experience with an expander, except my son who had one prior to getting braces. He was pretty adaptable at that young age, not so sure I would be at this point in my life.

Thanks for checking Mike. I've had the uppers on for 3 days now, and I feel pretty good. The hole in my left cheek is bugging me, but I've lumped a bunch of wax on the bracket so it should heal. I got my micrometer out and I think my teeth moved a teeny tiny bit! I know, wishful thinking! http://i8...

Braced for an hour!

Got my 3M clear brackets on the uppers today. So far no ripping or tearing of the lips or cheeks.

Braces take II - Newbie

I got my first set of braces off a couple of weeks before my wedding, I was about 25. About 6 months after the braces came off I had some slight spacing between the two front teeth which bonding took care of. At about 40 things started getting worse and it took more bonding on the upper front 4 teet...

Ohhh, I hope I don't feel like eating! :D

With the jaw surgery, can you see a nutritionist to help you take in the calories needed to maintain your weight?

I went to my dentist today to have some bonding removed from my teeth prior to uppers being installed on Monday. The HORROR! I can't believe how much space there is between my teeth, it looks like I've never had braces. I almost cried. I stopped by the ortho to get two spacers put back in an...

Hi I'm a newbie here!

I had braces in my twenties, and now I'm GASP 50 and getting them again.

How did each of you determine if ceramic or metal was the right choice for you? My ortho is trying to get me to do metal but I really like the idea of the ceramics.

thanks!
