update - adjustment #1

8 weeks in and what an 8 weeks! It turns out I'm allergic to the nickel in the wires (this has yet to be confirmed but I'm 99% sure). So I've had two months with a swollen mouth, and a cycle of of super-big fat lips -- like the big red wax lips that we got as kids - with burning, itching and peeling...

I found that my teeth don't really feel clean unless I use my threader floss and proximal pick thingie. I love love love the tiny proximal brushes...I don't know what I'd do without them. My latest braces misadventure is that I managed to pull the wire out of the bottom back bracket this morning wh...

Yes, jambo, you have to be a patient ortho patient. Or, at least that's what I keep telling myself (and I've only had braces for 2.5 weeks).

So far (2.5 weeks in) I've avoided the mirror obsession - I just run my tongue along the backs of my upper teeth constantly because the angles are changing. I did this so much last week that I actually got blisters on my tongue (well, I think that's what the blisters are from).

I got braced 2/4/10 and am just now getting to the point that I can kind of chew without pain. I also had the weird flavor thing along with sensitive teeth, but that only last the first 5-6 days. I've eaten a lot of mac-&-cheese and rice-&-beans this month because I can swallow them mostly w...

I was braced on 2/410 and wasn't sure ahead of time that I'd make it through without having a panic attack. I debated asking for a xanax or something ahead of time but ended up not doing it. I took 2 aleve about an hour before the appt so I wasn't really in any pain all day. During my appt. I listen...

I actually did dilute the hydrogen peroxide 50/50. Once I got the nerve up to try it again I did 3 parts water and 1 part hydrogen peroxide which seemed to work better. I've actually started "chewing" food again the past few days, but mostly I'm still swallowing food whole and trying not t...

2 weeks 1 day

So far this isn't so bad. I wasn't really able to chew much of anything until the past three days but 'uncomfortable' is different than 'painful'. I haven't popped off a bracket yet even though I was expecting to for some reason. However, already I'm looking forward to the day I get them off and my ...

Lynley's story

Hi, I started a post on another forum but I'm going to keep my ongoing story here. I am 40-something and at this point have had damons - upper and lower - for 3.5 days. My 'sentence' is 18-24 months for impacted canines, overbite, overlap, class I bite on one side and some crowding. I can't believe ...

thanks for checking in

Hey Ken,

Thanks for checking in on my story.

I am impressed beyond belief that you signed up for this for 4 years - I've only been in it 4 days and am pretty sure I couldn't do 4 years.

Cheers, Lynley

Hi, Thanks for all your encouragement. 2.5 days in and things are going okay. My mouth hurts but not unbearably. Though thank god for salt water rinses. I have build-ups on my back molars so I think that even when my teeth didn't hurt, I'll still be eating soft/liquified foods. So far I've eaten mas...

I got braced 2 days ago complete with bite ramps. Somehow they don't feel like they actually work as I still smashed my top teeth into the bottom bracket just hours after leaving the ortho (which created the single most painful moment so far in this process). I don't see how I'll be able to chew any...

there's an alien living in my mouth

embracement + 6 hours... I feel like there's an alien living in my mouth, and a picky one at that. Hot foods are too hot. Cold foods are too cold. I can't drink out of a cup without dribbling. Apparently anything that can't be delivered through a straw is out of bounds for the time being. Aside from...

joining the club 2/4/10 (if all goes well)

Hi All, After lurking for a few months I thought I'd stick my hand up and introduce myself. I have an appointment day after tomorrow to get braces. The reality of that hasn't sunk in yet to the point that I've only told a couple of people (and no one at works knows). I am old enough (40+) to be gett...
