My previous regular dentist was willing to do Invisalign on just my bottom teeth. I never took him up on it, so I don't know the fee he would've proposed. My orthodontist said I'd have to order the whole set and could only wear one if I wished. (I ended up with just ICE braces on the bottom. They're...

I haven't noticed any problems speaking except for when I am reading at lenght to my kids--for some reason, I do notice I have to position my mouth differently for certain words (can't think of any right now). I have not noticed anything different in normal conversation.

I was honest in my initial consultation that I only wanted to fix my crowding lower teeth--nothing else. My ortho looked things over and said he could do that. I went ahead with records (a separate fee of $385) and we met for another consultation. He did show me everything that was wrong to be fair,...

Why on earth would they want to pull out four teeth!!?? I'd stay away from that option. Your teeth are almost on track. It seems like they could do something minor.

Ouch! And so much for clear

I just had my first adjustment. I have clear (bottom only) and they criss-crossed a wire under my metal arch wire. And because of the two wires, they had to wire them to two of my brackets. The rest they managed to slip a pearl colored lig over. First of all, OUCH. As soon as I got home a lig shot o...

I don't believe orthodontists can prescribe pain medication...can they? Drrick may have hit the nail on the head. It doesn't seem like you are a match for each other...

Ligs for ceramic braces

Remind me again of the good colors for less noticible staining. I started with clear and they were stained within 3 days--I could barely eat for those three days and avoided coffee! Two weeks after, I got them changed out for pearl. Those have held up better, but are now stained (2 weeks later). My ...

I've stared at my teeth ten times a day for four weeks and I am happy to report...they have moved! I could feel that they did because one tooth is hitting my top teeth and it has never done that before. I can also see subtle changes in the overall curve of my lower teeth. I read that it takes about ...

Little tiny brush

I got a little tiny Christmas-tree shaped brush when I got my braces on. I put it in my purse thinking it'd help get out junk while away from home. I never used it. I just went in for a dental cleaning last week and the hygenist has braces. She talked about the advantages of this brush and now I lov...

I assume you mean 18-24 months, not weeks...? I can't help on the cost of the self ligating. I also live in California and was quoted $1900 for metal braces for 12 months (only lower) and $2345 for ICE clear braces for 12 months (only lower). So, if you take those and double them for upper & low...

I think that would bother me--I'm not sure it's supposed to be that way. I've only had braces for 4 weeks and I have one tooth that has moved forward more than it already was. It taps my top teeth when I talk and I can't wait for it to move back and settle in with the rest. If that was permanent, I ...

If my daughter cared whether or not I was wearing braces at her wedding.....well, I won't finish that sentence.

A wedding is the ceremony to enter marriage. You should focus on your marriage and reasons for getting married and not worry so much about your teeth. That's not the important part.

I don't have any wisdom teeth on the bottom. I had one on top erupt and it was growing slanted toward my cheeck. I had it pulled about 5 years ago (age 32) very quickly with just novicaine. I have one remaining. It is impacted and not bothering anything, so I left it there.

I can't say I agree with all that you say, but now that I have braces, I notice people's teeth. My main issue is crowding of lower teeth. Once I open the braces conversation, I notice people generally say, "Mine are crowded too." And low and behold, they are. Mine were crowded for about 10...
