Re: How am I supposed to swish this mouthwash around?

I was told to use a syringe and squirt the mouthwash all over the front of my teeth and then swish around as best you can. This way the wash will also pour around the incision sites which are important to keep clean from the beginning. You're swishing skills will improve with time.

Re: To anybody who's already had jaw surgery...

-Don't count on sleep happening for the first few days. -Having my parents visit frequently in the hospital was really important for me. Those three days were hell and it really helped to have a hand to hold while struggling to breathe. -And finally, I haven't heard anyone else mention this on the b...

Re: Did you have an easier time of talking after the surgery

I had surgery for an underbite (and other stuff) about 2 months ago. Talking is actually a bit of a challenge now...my tongue isn't used to the new setup and as a consequence I've acquired a major lisp. I didn't have any speech problems pre-surgery.

Re: Long-time lurker, first-time poster.

I took a year off before grad school to get the surgery. I suppose if you're doing individual research/thesis work that doesn't require much social interaction you might be able to make it work. But as someone who just had double jaw surgery I must stress that the recovery process is serious and som...

Re: Please Help!!...Trouble breathing after surgery (nasal)

I know what you're going through. I just came back to the board to look for help too. I had surgery on tuesday and have slept a total of 2 hours since. I've been getting no air in the nose and my mouth gets dry and foamy...it's been hell. No sprays or hydrogen peroxide worked for me...but I did get ...

1. Underbite, crossbite, openbite, crazy asymmetry 2. 100% facial aesthetics, but I mention function problems to people who don't understand the huge negative impact asymmetry can have on self-esteem. Plus, at this point (pre-surgery), I don't know what a proper functioning bite feels like...so I do...

Just want to add that your nose doesn't look bad to me at all. If you get the lower jaw moved forward a bit the nose will probably end up looking incredibly normal. And your chin can also be pushed back a bit too...I think your profile has really great potential...I would pay good money for that chi...

Hi bb, Your post has struck a bit of fear in me. I'm pretty sure I'll be having my surgery with the same surgeon as you (you mentioned his name many posts ago). I've only had the initial consultation with him so far and he seems like a really nice guy, but do you feel like you got the best treatment...

Hey MrT, I was just about to post about self-esteem issues myself. I just saw a picture of myself at a conference and realized how crooked my jaw is becoming after getting the braces on. I knew to expect this, but it was devastating to see it so obviously displayed in a photo. My self-esteem is at a...

Well done, you! And congratz Just wondering, though: what's a tongue shield? I've had all manner of things done to me, but I don't think they've ever used one of those on me... the tongue shield cups the tongue in a hard plastic shell to keep the mouth dry for placing the brackets. for me it also p...

panic attack getting braces on..help!

I'm 27 and decided to finally fix my teeth. I've never had any fear of the dentist but a couple years ago I had a REALLY REALLY traumatic upper GI endoscopy. So today I went to get the braces on...feeling fine...until the ortho put those lip things on and the tongue holder. INSTANT panic attack. I c...
