I think it depends on your age.

I was 25 when I had the surgery. I got out of recovery around 1 p.m. and my mom stayed with me until dinnertime. She came back the next morning. I could have had her stay over, but it's kind of nice to have peace after surgery. :)

You really need to ask your orthodontist about this. It's not a stupid question, but I hope it's not the reason you're avoiding surgery. Yeah, your bite could be worse for a while, but then it's going to be awesome after surgery. I had braces three times as a child/teen before getting surgery in Mar...

Tiny recurring gap in front teeth

I had upper jaw surgery on March 9. About a week after surgery, I had a tiny gap between my two front teeth that wasn't there before. It went away in three days. Now it's starting back up again. I have the gap when I brush in the morning, but it's usually gone by nightfall. Any idea what could be ca...

Lip strain post-op

There was a thread here many moons ago about post-op lip strain (http://www.archwired.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=30203&highlight=&sid=3014ae370ec24d0fea6c81ccea020532). I had a Lefort I almost seven weeks ago to correct an open bite. My bite and smile are BEAUTIFUL now, and I don't want to s...

I got my braces two days after my 25th birthday. I could have gotten ceramic, but I chose metal because I think ceramic braces look like you have massive plaque buildup on your teeth. They don't fool anyone. With braces, you might be mistaken for younger than 25 a few times, but people won't take yo...

The key thing with orthognathic surgery is to be patient. It will take more time to move your teeth because you're not 13 anymore. That said, I'm 25 and had braces several times a child. My teeth were almost perfectly straight when I got on pre-Lefort I braces (I have an open bite). I got them on in...
