Re: Permanent Retainer is a PAIN! :(
Yesterday at my appointment the ortho told me that if everything moves like it is supposed to  at my next appointment (3 weeks) they will take impressions for permanent retainers, upper and lower. Then it will take another 4 weeks before they de-brace and install the retainers. I had no idea I...

Re: How did you know when you found the right orthodontist?
I had two consults before I made my decision. Dr S. was recommended by my dentist (who was going through braces at the time), an adult friend who just got them off and two friends whose kids had gone to him. He was a little abrupt, but I didn't feel put off. He is not someone I would go out for a dr...

Re: Does anyone hate adjustments as much as I do?
I agree that I look forward to adjustments because I know I am that much closer to being done. The last one I had done is the first time my teeth *really* hurt afterwards. They were sore for almost a week! I had a power chain put on the bottom and I couldn't bite into anything crisp for days! No tor...

I thought I was too old (42) for braces and it was hard to justify the expense in my mind but I am so glad I did it. Please, please get consults from a few different orthos! I went to my friend's ortho and got a quote of $5000 and almost passed out. Then I went to my kids ortho (2 kids + 8 years of ...

VA5: How long did it take for the powerchains to close up the gaps? I have gaps because my teeth have been turning and at my last visit (last week) I got powerchains on the top and bottom and the gaps on the top don't appear to have changed at all. I know it takes time to move teeth, but there has b...

The only times I regret having braces is when I have to have my picture taken or when I eat something that gets wrapped around the wire. I have to remind myself constantly that it is impolite to put your fingers in your mouth while eating to dig out food. :soremouth: I've disliked my teeth since I w...

I haven't had a lot of pain at all so far. But I am also impatient and I keep asking the ortho when they will put powerchains on the top teeth, the gaps that have formed are driving me nuts! I had an adjustment today and it didn't hurt at all. The teeth on the right side feel tight, but it's not pai...

I haven't had mine for quite a month yet so I appreciate everyone's comments. One that I have discovered that I didn't see was, putting on lip balm, while necessary more so now than ever, is interesting because I can't quite rub my lips together. (You just tried it, didn't you  ) I have become ...

Thank you for posting this question! I was about to ask a similar one. I've noticed that in two places my gums are crowding the brackets. I wasn't sure if it was because I wasn't brushing enough or because my teeth were moving and starting to tip out instead of tipping in. I will step up the brushin...

I had a rather interesting experience over the weekend. I was scheduled to give a speech in front of about 80 people and I thought the plan was to start the program, eat dinner and then end with my speech. Well, as I was eating the rice (because I couldn't chew the dry, tough chicken) I heard myself...

Maggi, get some of those Ensure drinks. They will give you nutrients and some calories and you can drink them instead of chewing. I got my braces a week ago and I have been living on Carnation Instant Breakfast and cottage cheese. But I would love to lose 20 lbs! My daughter asked me the other night...

I asked my dentist about Invisalign and she told me they wouldn't work for me and that they cost as much as regular braces. Now that I have spent money on a night guard that I never wear, I know I wouldn't be disciplined enough for Invisalign. http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/d/4;10722;120/st/20...
