Re: How long was it (after BSSO) before your sensation retur

I'd say I had mine fully back within about a month.

Re: How 'easy' is it for plates and screws to come out of pl

I don't think it's particularly easy. I had at least 24 hours with nothing keeping my jaws together at all, and I couldn't actually close my teeth together in that time. Then I had to wear them non stop for I think about five days. Then I had a melt down over the fact that I couldn't eat and was all...

Re: laying on side?!

Nah. I managed to stop lying on my side for a grand total of about three days!

Re: 5 week post-op, pain below ear, think my jaw went back,

I had the pain below my ear as well. I remember it would normally get gradually worse throughout the day but would sometimes be there entirely randomly. I don't get it at all now - I can't remember when it stopped though, it stopped kind of gradually. I get the jerking pain as well. Mine has slowed ...

I can't answer your first two questions, but... 3. I threw up blood three or four times the first day. Honestly, it wasn't THAT bad. The first time I realised it was going to happen I got really stressed wondering how it was going to be but actually it was fine. They'll use this thing to clean the b...

Re: Braces on the NHS

The waiting lists can definitely be a nightmare! I think I was on it for about two years the first time around. Then sometime during that process, I moved house. I didn't tell anyone at first and just put up with the three hour drive, but when I sold my car I couldn't handle the public transport all...

Re: My Son needs orthognathic jaw surgery

Yeah, it's difficult to decide! I changed my mind a fair few times throughout the process. It doesn't help that I got mine on the NHS, which meant lots of waiting lists for the braces and the surgery anyway. Then I moved to a different area, which meant an extra year or so when I'd already decided. ...

Re: Longest Time In Braces Pre-Surgery?

Mine were on for just under three years. Which is a lot longer than the one year I was told originally! I was surprised at the beginning as most of my teeth moved immediately. I had lots of crowding at the bottom centre, I basically had shark teeth where some had moved behind the others, and yet wit...

Re: Lost sense of smell after double jaw surgery

Yeah, I remember losing mine slightly afterwards as well. I wasn't really aware of it until one day a friend was surprised that I hadn't commented on his overwhelming aftershave and I had no idea he was even wearing any, haha. At any point, it appears to have come back or I've somehow adjusted to it...

Lips not meeting properly after surgery :(

I had my lower jaw advanced and my chin reduced just over five weeks ago. Before I had the surgery, I had no problems with my lips meeting, but since the surgery they have not been co-operating at all. I no longer have any numb areas so it's definitely not that - I was relying on the fact that maybe...

Re: if smiling causes oain how much is too much?

I think at some point you just work out what is right for you. In my case, I would talk until I stopped being understandable - at that point my muscles and jaw would just give in and I'd start slurring words a bit, at which point I would send my friend home. The day after I'd normally be really swol...

Re: My Son needs orthognathic jaw surgery

Though I know you're doing so because you want the best for him and because you know it'll be beneficial in the long run, I'd really advise you let your son make his own decision in regards to the surgery. I was the only one who wanted the surgery, everyone else said they didn't see the point. But I...

Some quick questions for those who have had jaw surgery!

Hello! I'm a week out of lower jaw surgery now (still haven't decided if it was a mistake...) and had some quick questions for those of you who have had it already. My bite isn't completely settled and without elastics goes apart by 1-2mm so I don't know how much is because I'm going to need followu...

Re: Final result as opposed to when you move your jaw forwar

It's for an overbite if that makes any difference, and just lower jaw surgery for me. Yep, I'm having it done in 7 weeks. They change their mind at literally every consult so its sort of a mystery to me.

Final result as opposed to when you move your jaw forwards?

For those of you who have had surgery, what were the final results of your facial structure as opposed to when you just moved your jaw forwards/backwards? I'm hoping it'll look quite different, as from the side profile when I move my jaw forwards I just look angry no matter how relaxed I try to keep...
