I ended up being on a liquid diet, banded tightly shut for 6 weeks. I'm not going to lie. It sucked. I thought I was going to be fully de-braced right before my birthday, but it turned out they only took off a few bands instead of the whole shebang, so that was disappointing. The whole was depressin...

^^ totally... I brought a big bag with my laptop, books, etc.... Never touched any of it. I'm sorry it seems as though you're going into surgery blind. That is a really scary thought, but it sounds like you trust your surgeon and so I would stick with that. Waking up from anesthesia, you're likely t...

I was heavily banded for 5 weeks, and each time I went to my OS to adjust my bands, my bite improved. I thought there was something wrong, too, at first. But I wouldn't worry about it too much - address your concern to your surgeon, but don't lose sleep. he/she knows what they are doing.

I wouldn't suggest you driving 3.5 hours solo post surgery for at least a week, but your surgeon will probably want to see you sooner.... My surgery was on a Thursday, left the hospital on a Friday, had my first post-op visit that Monday, and then once a week for 5-6 weeks, then de-bracing and tooth...

I used a straw from day two. I sucked my soup between my teeth; there was room because I didn't have orthodontics prior to surgery. Didn't seem to have any negative effects.

I was told no exercise for 3 months. Not even yoga. In retrospect, I think my surgeon was more concerned about the potential weight loss (I was very thin to begin with) than anything really happening to my jaw

I had my one wisdom tooth extracted during my surgery. It wasn't too much at all, I was too busy focusing on the immediate post-op general yuckiness to notice any additional irritation in the back of my mouth. I'm SO glad I didn't have 2 operations, it made my life a lot easier.

I would tread carefully, and especially make sure your nose and throat are clear. You're gonna wake up with a breathing tube and a feeding tube up your nose, plus a lot of congestion and blood and mucous coming out, so it's best that you're 100% in the nose and throat area before surgery.

I started to gargle saltwater right away. I also rinsed with a gentle mouthwash - Biotene - after every "meal", and started using a soft toothbrush after a week or so. I would jump on the boat right away to prevent bacteria from getting in there (and bad breath, as much as possible  )

I had my one wisdom tooth taken out during my jaw surgery... I'm so glad I them at the same time. My tooth wasn't impacted or anything and so having my surgeon take it out was optional. And I honestly don't think I even FELT the wisdom tooth pain that most people usually have, because the actual jaw...

I would listen to whatever your surgeon and orthodontist advice you, or not go through with the surgery. I didn't need braces prior to my surgery - they just went ahead with it, and my results are fantastic - but I did need 6 weeks of surgical braces with rubber bands after, to stabilize my bite and...

I also wanted to check out getting rhinoplasty, and my surgeon offered to refer me to a colleague of his. I would feel much safer getting it done with a specialist. Apparently today over half of all nose surgeries are CORRECTIONS of prior ones that didn't turn out well, and corrections are way more ...

Audra - the hook catching on my lips were the worst! I got a sore at one point :( Descantus - you look absolutely amazing. I also had surgery for an underbite, and cut my hair - I discovered I can pull off a pixie cut and feel confident! Best of luck for your debanding and debracing, April crew. ......
