BracketRacket, Thanks! I have been busy since I am back at work now. It is a huge relief to be done with the expanding! It has been almost a month now since I have been tied off. I go back in next week just for a check up. I get braces on my bottem teeth in June and hopefully by July or August I wil...

Angela, I am sorry to hear that you are having such a rough time! I couldn't even imagine expanding by 12 turns in one visit! I honestly don't think I would have allowed that, I would rather take the slower, safer route. I myself have just come to accept the gap for now. The way I think of it is tha...

Dr. Blur, I was done turning in a week, so it does go pretty swiftly. I only did 15 turns which amounted to between 5 and 6mm. My RPE has been tied off and they place acrylic over the wire. I go back in a month for a check up and then the following month I get braces on my bottem teeth which is fair...

Hello! :) I just had SARPE surgery on 6APR. My orthodontist says that my RPE will stay in for three months. I don't have braces on the top or bottem at the moment. I get braces on the bottem in two months and then probably by July or August on the Top. My second appointment after the surgery with my...

Hello All! I wouldn't worry too much about the general anesthesia. I hadn't been put under since I was about 5 when I had my tonsils and adnoids removed. The general anesthesia with my SARPE surgery last week was easy peasy, at least for me. They put the breathing tube in while you are out and they ...

sauerkraut, thanks for keeping in touch with the newbies :). I have done 15 turns, I am not really sure how many turns I have to do. I have an appointment today that I am getting ready to go to so maybe I am done. Who knows. They wanted to expand me 5 or 6 mm. So we will see how the appointment goes...

Hello! I just had the SARPE put in on Tuesday :). It really isn't as bad as I thought it would be. I am not really in much pain because when the move the nerves in your cheeks for the surgery it desensitizes them so you will feel numb and tingly for a while. My nose bled quite a bit after surgery. B...

Hello All! I just got my SARPE put in on Tuesday. So two days post op and I have swelling, every now and then a little bleeding in my nose. Some bruising. But overall I think I am doing great! I am still on a liquid diet which doesn't bother me too much because I havn't had an appetite, probably due...

Hey all! Sorry I havn't been on for a few days, my laptop died on my so I had to go get a new one today. I got the palatal expander put in today. It didn't fit the first time the ortho tried but after ALOT of pushing and prodding it is in. Learning to eat and drink with it now is the adventure. It's...

Hello Audra and Descantus! Good luck with your upcoming surgeries! It does look as if I am way behind :). I get the RPE on Monday of next week and then Tuesday I have the SARPE surgery. I asked today when I went to get spacers placed in, exactly how many millimeters my palate needed to be expanded. ...

Hello All!! I am scheduled on 06APR2010 to have the Surgically Assisted Rapid Palatal Expander procedure. I am pretty excited about it! I am growing more nervous by the day though, especially seeing the pictures of blogs of people who have had the procedure. I guess I didn't really think of what I w...
