I would agree with crazybeautiful, I picked up everything I was prescribed whether or not I needed it. I'm sure you will be given some more specific instructions on when you need to take each medication. In my case I was told to avoid ibuprofen and any blood thinner as I had some pretty wild noseble...

I would think you will be in good shape then. Keep in mind my energy level is still not at 100%, but I would be pretty comfortable doing an interview were it not for this splint.

Good luck!

Hey Descantus, I'm coming up on 4 weeks post and all swelling and stuff is pretty much gone. As for speaking, I still have a splint so it makes it difficult to say some words since it blocks about a quarter inch behind my top front teeth. I guess it depends on if you have a splint and how long you h...

Hi, Sounds like you are doing well for your first day out. I think swelling usually peaks around day 3 or so and should decrease from there. I didn't experience any pain really so I still have all of my tylenol-codeine leftover. I didn't find much to do about the discomfort from the swelling except ...

I had a morphine button when I was in the hospital, but I lucked out and didn't need it. My biggest problem was congestion so I just ended up calling in the nurses to give me nasal spray.

Hi Mary, I got 3 prescriptions: Amoxicillin, Chlorhexidine mouthwash, and Acetaminophen-codeine. I used up all of the antibiotic and mouthwash. The usefulness of the painkiller will probably be dependent on the level of pain you experience. From what I've seen it varies quite a bit from person to pe...

Hi Crumble, Sorry to hear about all the pain you're experiencing. When you can get some decent rest recovery will definitely be a lot smoother. I know I struggled during the first few days out. I don't think I got a solid, uninterrupted nights sleep until sometime during the second week. The first w...

I didn't really discuss it with my surgeon, but from what I can tell they determined what pain medication to send me home with based on how much of the painkiller (connected to my IV) I used during my hospital stay. I was lucky enough to have virtually no pain and didn't end up needing any, so they ...

Hey Audra, good to hear you are doing better. The bands themselves seem to hold my jaws close enough that its pretty comfortable if I were to just let it hang there. But I was wired shut at when I was where you are, so I'm sure it would still ache a good amount if they let me open up then. I can get...

I found that they covered pretty much all of the questions I thought to ask. Though I didn't get some of the info until the day before or day of surgery. My surgeon didn't know much about the billing side of things so stuff about anesthesiologist and hospitalization coverage and such I had to run by ...

Hi Audra, glad to hear back from you. The first couple days are definitely the toughest. A combination of the swelling, splint, being banded/wired shut and the congestion made it really tough for me to get any sleep the first few days. Once you can get some decent rest, the days will go by faster - ...

Forgot to mention, I just woke up after surgery with it on. I didn't need to ask for one. It was pretty much just a long sock like thing (open at both ends) that they stuffed with bags of ice and tied around my head. I don't know if there is a fancier one than what I got though.

I just got back from my OS for a 3 week - post surgery follow-up. They unwired me and put some loose bands on so I can actually talk now. Because of the splint I have a lisp and sound like Sylvester the cat, but its much better than before. Just 2-3 more weeks before they take out the splint. Numbne...

Sounds good Audra, looks like everything is set!

2-4 weeks doesn't sound too bad, I was quoted 6 -7 weeks. I'm hoping they were just being conservative because its feels pretty nasty in there at 2 weeks post op.
