Re: Dr Relle at Kaiser Los Angeles is leaving Kaiser.

Dr. Tehrany along with Dr. Ratner were involved in my surgery a year ago at UCLA and I was really happy with the result. Dr. Tehrany was really nice and helpful in dealing with any of my post-surgery issues and questions. If I had to do it again I wouldn't hesitate to go to her.

Re: Has anyone here appealed the allowable amount with Anthe

Pretty much what Hokietay said. I had to appeal to go up from a few hundred to the allowable amount which was around $3k. I didnt have much success with any followup letters and phone calls to cover the remaining surgeon fees of around $10k. My hospital and anesthesiologist were in network so I was ...

Re: Has anyone here appealed the allowable amount with Anthe

I appealed my insurance, Blue Shield CA. I had a different surgeon and the cost was around $13k. I was only able to get BSCA to pay up to their maximum contracted amount which was around $3k, initially they only offered a portion based on their out of network benefits. They didn't budge on paying mo...

The most I lost was about 4 or 5 pounds from what I was before surgery. As the swelling went down and it became easier to eat (drink) I got back to normal pretty quickly. I ate pretty constantly though, downed one of those shakes just about every 1.5 to 2 hours.

Welcome Antony. Congrats on your graduation and starting the process for jaw surgery. It's odd, but as soon as I started working, time flew by much faster than I expected. It's definitely a long and difficult journey, but I'm sure you will be happy with your results. I (re)started the whole braces t...

I had a similar area numb right after my surgery, right nostril area. I think the feeling came back around a month to a month and a half after the surgery.

I was told that feeling in the upper jaw pretty much always comes back, though it may take longer for some.

I think your ortho would be willing to help you along in getting whatever you need for insurance approval for the surgery. Though you may want to check in with your oral surgeons office to see if they can do it for you (if they have staff that are used to dealing with insurance companies) or at leas...

The splint is definitely not fun, but I had to keep mine in for 6 weeks. I was able to get back to work at 2 weeks out, but the splint made me really hard to understand. I actually had some fun trying to get people to understand what I was saying, but it did get pretty frustrating sometimes.

I forgot to add, I think you are more likely to see complaints and problems on online boards since those who have no real problems tend to move on and the surgery becomes a much smaller part of their life. Many on this board are those who are going to have or have recently had surgery. So most of th...

I had a BSSO and Leforte I in April. I think my recovery went pretty smooth. 90% of the swelling was down by 2-3 weeks. I only had numbness on my left nostril which went away at week 5. I was back to eating (mostly) normal food by week 7. At 2 months post op I was pretty much back to normal and able...

Sounds great, I'm glad you are happy with the results after all you have gone through. Is eating any better/easier with the brace off?

I'm hoping the next appointment is when mine are removed - the sores I'm getting from the braces rubbing my cheeks is getting tiresome.

Awesome Audra. Looks like your braces are off tomorrow - let us know how it turns out. I have at least a month or so before mine are off. A few teeth have to be rotated because a few teeth had some premature contact. Everything seems back to normal for me now: eating, swelling and feeling are back t...

I will second what Audra said. It will go much more smoothly if she keeps properly hydrated in addition to getting some food like protein shakes or soup. The recovery period is definitely tough, but it could be much tougher if problems arise from being malnourished or dehydrated - particularly after...
