Hi Jawguy, Yes, when you see the surgeon they will take several x-rays, then the surgeon will talk to you about what he or she thinks is wrong with your bite, and how they would fix it. In the course of my treatment, I have had three consultations with different surgeons. In my case, the price of ea...

Your ortho and surgeon will work together to determine your final bite, so you probably want them working together from the very start. Your ortho will be in charge of the final post-surgery treatment phase (fine-tuning the bite, etc). In my case, as I get closer to surgery, it seems like my surgeon...

Hi, My orthodontist is in Arizona, and my surgeon is in Washington state. From my experience, it might prove a bit of a headache, but it's entirely feasible. My ortho emails records to my surgeon's office, and ships over study models. I know they have talked on the phone, but not sure how many times...

I just meant that some people are already nice-looking before surgery, and that essential loveliness is retained post-surgery. That doesn't mean, of course, that our faces don't change. There better be a change, as a surgical saw is literally going to be used on my jaw and I'm paying good money to h...

I'm having mine in a week and experiencing a strange combination of nerves/elation. If it helps any, I just had a phone interview with the pre-admissions people at the hospital where I am having my surgery (my surgery is out of town, so they did a phone interview instead of having me drive all the w...

If I was assured that my misaligned jaws could forever act as some kind of shallow man deterrent, well maybe I would forgo surgery and sacrifice good mastication ability so that only the really good ones came my way. I'm being tongue-in-cheek--I really can't wait for my teeth to touch, and no...

Hi! I'm sorry I am not post-surgery so I can't give you a happy story about how easy my recover was or how wonderful it is on "the other side." I just wanted to tell you that you are not alone. I'm having my surgery in a couple of weeks to correct my open bite, and when I start imagining t...

Interesting question. Only my family and a few close friends know about my upcoming jaw surgery. I stopped telling people about it because I don't like some of the reactions I get. I don't know about the rest of you, but the first couple of times I told someone I was eventually going to need jaw sur...

question about post-op meds

Hi everyone, For those of you post-op, I have a question about post-op medications. It's my understanding that patients are generally given pain medications and antibiotics to prevent infection. Is that generally the case with everyone? If so, I'm wondering when you were given antibiotics. Were they...

My OS told me I won't look very different post-surgery. I have an open bite and it's not fun. I always knew there was something "off" about my bite but I didn't know what it was. (Maybe it's my imagine, but my bite seemed to get weirder after I got my wisdom teeth extracted.) I think that,...

That's a new one. Don't think I've seen this on anyone's soft foods list. I tend to like fruit smoothies a lot, so I'm going to try to avoid adding even more sugar to the mix, but this seems like it could make for a nice and easy to eat treat, especially since my surgery is now scheduled close to th...

I agree with Gavinfilan that I don't think your nose (or chin) looks bad at all. I'm not a doctor obviously, but I think that once you get surgery and you achieve a healthier bite, the rest of your features will probably balance out naturally. For now, though, don't despair. Keep looking and asking ...

any websites selling 'jaw bras'?

Hello everyone, I am a little disappointed that I can't seem to find any website currently selling the cool jaw wraps. It seems (from my months of reading orthoblogs and this board) that people really seem to love this product and that it provides hands-free help with keeping the swelling down. Now ...
