"...you could go from Mr Chin to Mr No Chin" says Max-Fac.
I've been strapped in fixed braces for 2 years and I am now finally ready for surgery. I have my final pre-surgery appointment next week (where I should be getting an op. date) with the Ortho and surgeon. I'm feeling quite anxious about it because I have been given various options (at least initiall...

Re: Does Jaw surgery to shorten face really work?
So I'm one of those with an underbite and a long face, because of an excessively long chin, but that is because my jaw kind of 'drops'. I'm proposed to have lower jaw surgery (5-6mm backwards) and that is all. The difference in jaw shape will be noticeable, yet subtle, however my surgeon has said it...

My Clear Braces - Elastic Modules have gone GREEN!!
Hi all, I am 4 months into wearing my braces. I have clear upper and lower 'train-track' ones in prep for surgery next year. Most annoying thing i find is that when i have my adjustments (6-9 weeks), after about a week, i will eat a curry, drink red wine, or have something that stains the elastic mo...

Re: Help in Coping with braces - just want the surgery now!
Hey thanks for the reply! I think they didn't offer me it because I said I was happy with how I look... well now I'm not! :D Just a quick question, do you know of the risks with reduction genioplasty - i.e. shortening your chin? One thing I am slightly concerned about is the premature ageing issue i...

Help in Coping with braces - just want the surgery now! :(
Hi all, I really need some help right now... im only 2 months and 2 weeks into my orthodontic treatment. I have a slight underbite and am having lower jaw surgery to fix it. My orthodontist said the surgery would take place after about 18 months, so next summer basically - which seems like an eterni...

Myy appointments every 8 weeks? Is my treatment longer?
Hi, Quick question; my initial brace appointment was scheduled 6 weeks after i had them put on. I've just had this appointment and now I'm not due to go back for another 8 weeks!? My ortho said this is because I am a good patient and i am looking after my braces, therefore 'checking' on me so soon i...

Re: 'split' lower jaw, remove bone each side and move back?
Thanks for the post. I have already seen this video however and it looks very straight-forward. If I am having lower jaw surgery then why is the surgeon splitting my lower jaw beneath my lip?
This video doesnt show anything like that being done...

Re: It's Crunch Time - Do I or Don't I, Please HELP!!
Well I hope your son recovers well and the operation went exactly as planned! Yes I have heard of the genioplasty treatment as an alternative cosmetic approach to jaw surgery, however it can only do so much and involves reshaping the end of the chin, which I wasn't so keen on! I have heard of people...

'split' lower jaw, remove bone each side and move back?
My surgeon tells me that he is going to 'split' my lower jaw (from underneath the bottom lip), and then remove bone each side of the jaw, then reposition the jaw so that its moved back. Then I can bite normally (and not have an underbite!) Has anyone else who had lower jaw surgery had a similar proc...

Re: lower jaw surgery only? Will this change the length of f
I did email my surgeon in the end as I wasnt entirely sure. He said that my face will look different from the front-view (i.e. the length) by moving the lower jaw back. Apparently there is this software which can accurately calculate what one will look like post-surgery - he said for me to wait for ...

lower jaw surgery only? Will this change the length of face?
Hi all, I am about this start this journey. I have a class 3 underbite and it really gets to me - eating, grinding, lisp etc. Am receiving orthodontic treatment privately (to avoid the NHS waiting list) and then surgery via the NHS. (Fortunately the orthodontist works for the NHS so he has good cont...

In line for surgery, but will this fix my pointy chin to?
I'm just starting this whole treatment, due to get braces in November for 18 months, then upper and lower jaw surgery to fix my underbite - so the surgeon will move my lower jaw back, upper forward a bit, and depending at the time, possibly widen my top jaw as it is quite narrow!! I am very excited ...

Both your answers are basically exactly what I want. Do all NHS orthos (or most) work privately also? Because I think my best bet on getting the ceramic braces and NHS surgery is to go private with the NHS ortho I'm currently seeing, who will in turn work with the NHS surgeon (through the NHS). My c...

Private Ortho in London who works with NHS surgeon(s) ???
Hi all, I've got a class 3 underbite and have the option of taking ortho treatment and oral surgery with the NHS. But I am going to need greater flexibility in what the NHS provides (i.e. changing of appointments to fit more preferred times etc.) and also I want to get the clear brackets! (I'm 23) A...
