September Debrace Club!

I'm scheduled to get debanded tomorrow at 9am!!!!!!!! I was given an initial estimation of 12 - 15 months and am actually finishing closer to the 18 month mark. I was told I would be getting temporary retainers and will be reevaluated in the future. Woohoo!!!!!!!!! Now hopefully the ortho doesn't de...

Re: Polishing query

Hello - I have a quick question for you, if you don't mind me asking. I'm just completing my ortho journey (scheduled to get debanded tomorrow!!!!) and have inspired my hubby to "fix" his teeth, too. He says he doesn't want to fix the bite, only straighten the teeth so I'm assuming he will...

wire question

Long story short, my ortho decided to place small bends in my wire to remove rotations rather than moving the brackets. Because of this my teeth are no longer level. He says it's due to uneven wear BUT my teeth were nice and level before he started placing the bends. (Side note: he's using SL 3M cer...

Re: Sure Smile vs. regular braces?

Thanks for the replies. I agree that hubby would be better off if he corrected his bite as well. He has an anterior open bite (among other issues) which makes eating a bit challenging. (How do you eat a sandwich when you can't bite down? ) But I'm thinking that the overall cost of the tx plan (which...

Sure Smile vs. regular braces?

Hi all. As I'm nearing the end of my braces journey, my husband has expressed interest in getting his teeth fixed as well. The thing is he's only interested in straitening his teeth and not fixing his bite. Has anyone gotten quotes from both a traditional ortho as well as a 6 month braces ortho? If ...

Bends in wire making teeth worse!

I'm in the tail end of treatment and my ortho has been doing what he calls "root manipulations" by placing small bends in the wire. The problems is, it's been making my teeth look more and more out of alignment. My black triangles are getting bigger (as well as new ones forming), my teeth ...

Re: Pregnant with braces

Me! I'm pregnant as well :0) I got my braces on in March 2010 with an expected treatment time of 12 - 18 months. I'm really hoping to get them off before the baby arrives as I know I will not have the energy (or time) for all the cleaning and upkeep. I've already started slacking.

Re: Having braces removed temporarily

How about you get basic ceramics (ones which require ligs) and then just get the wire removed for the day of the wedding? I have regular ceramics on the top and SL ceramics on the bottom. You can def. see the metal clips on the SL when you compare the two. But I would think a completely ceramic brac...

How long should I wait before I get teeth shaved?

Hello all. I think I'm in the home stretch as I should be getting settling elastics at my next appt. During the course of my treatment, my orthodontist has extruded my front top 4 teeth quite a bit. The 2 front teeth in particular are quite uneven and make an inverted V shape. My ortho has said this...

lindesd - could you ask your dentist about it when you see them next? I, too, have black triangles between my first and second top teeth on both sides. My ortho mentioned doing something like that, but I don't think he had ever heard of it in practice. I would love to pass the info on to him. As it ...

Is it wrong to ask my ortho..... ?

Is it wrong to ask my ortho to pick up the pace? I got braced in March with an estimate of 10 - 12 months. Last week I went for my dental cleaning and they said he told them 14 months! Now, I know it's a short tx time overall but I have some big things coming up in April and would REALLY like to hav...

Traditional bracket on top, self ligating on bottom. Why?

Hi all. I had my top arched braced 5 months ago with 3M clarity metal reinforced ceramics (requires the use of ligs). A few days ago I had my bottom arch braced but this time the ortho used 3M self ligating ceramic brackets. Does anyone know why this would be done? Are there benefits to using self l...

Did you get your upper and lowers on at the same time? I have ceramic on both but I got my uppers on about 5 months ago. It took a while (maybe a week or 2) to get used to the feel of them but I eventually did. And they did not affect my speech. I just got my lowers on a few days ago and while I adj...

Bend in archwire?

I did a search and didn't find an answer to this particular question. At my last adjustment my ortho said he was going to put several bends in my archwire (at the next appointment) to adjust the positioning of several top teeth. My questions is - will my archwire be bent like this for the remainder ...
