I also went down this route, the only thing of importance is has an NHS orthodontist definitely told you you are eligible for orthodontics on the NHS as not all people are when over 18, only those with a strong medical case. My dentist referred me to a private orthodontist and after paying my privat...

I had double jaw surgery and attended my univsersity registration event 7 days later. Although I was physically up for it apart from being tired, psychologically it was too much for me. I was really swollen and puffy, and was very self conscious about my bruises. I knew people were openly staring at...

Kirish, why are you so obsessed with assuming you know more about this surgery than anyone else. You seem to pick through purposefully finding faults with peoples post and trying to convince them they must be wrong. Seriously, why would you presume to know that its not common for surgery dates to ch...

When you say 'specific jaw problem' do you mean there is something else coinciding with your underbite, or are you talking about underbites in general? Just a plain old underbite as far as I'm concerned, I'm still no expert after my surgery, because its all done free on the NHS here I find UK patie...

I've had 3 different orthos and every one ha asked me which of my parents I inherited my underbite from as apparently my specific jaw problem is always inherited from immediate family. Both my parents have perfect jaw alignment/teeth though! If I didn't look so much like both parents I would worry I...

Wow, April sure feels like a lifetime ago. Saw ortho yesterday and badgered about a possible date for braces removal. She said we're still on track for having them off 6 months from surgery date which is mid-October and 1 week before my birthday. I'm excited that I may be brace free for my first bir...

Re: Poll: Motivation for surgery => aesthetics VS functio
1. Class III Maloclusion, no back teeth touching, chewing difficulties, blistering inside cheeks as chewing face not food. 2. 95% functional, 5% aesthetic. I was told at the age of 13 that I would need the surgery at the age of 18 or so when I had stopped growing as even at that age it was obvious t...

Just to echo what has been already say, it's far too early to be worried about permanent damage yet. I was well aware of the chances of permanent damage, and immediate numbness following surgery but at 7 weeks post-op I'm still continually suprised by the sensations I'm feeling. Sometimes it will be...

Re: Do you like yourselves again right away?
normally you should be on a liquid diet the first few weeks and only soft food for up to 2 months after surgery I think. not complying with that can have severe consequences, like a loose upper jaw, and more surgery. maybe your doctor has discovered a miracle that allows you to eat right away, but ...

After double jaw surgery I took a shower the next day, wanted a bath but there was none available on my ward. I really didn't feel like washing the same day and didn't mind too much becasue of the morphine haze. It felt really good at the time but the warmth bought my swelling and bruises out quite ...

I suppose it would be different for each trust but I know there is some scope for flexibility as my surgeon actually asked me if I needed to be fit in around my uni holiday times and told me that this could mean waiting longer as every other student wanted to be fit in during the holidays too so I c...

I'm not an official April buddy as I didn't discover this forum until after my op but just realised this morning that its been a full 4 weeks since surgery (well I was still on the operating table this time 4 weeks ago). Where does the time go! The first 2 weeks it was constantly on my mind, the fin...

Does anyone know when you are supposed to start jaw exercises to gain range of motion back? My surgeon didn't say anything at all about that and I don't see him now for 3 months. I was told no exercises (only asked after seeing people posting about loss of range of motion still months after surgery...
