Josh ate a burger and 2 orders of fries from In and Out today! He is 15 days post op! I couldn't believe it. He said he wanted to try. He was one happy happy boy! I haven't the courage to weigh him but I'm sure he is down in weight. He was around 85 pounds before surgery. He goes back to school on 9...

I have been telling my cousins to consider surgery. I have 2 cousins who are teenagers and it is too late for them to fix their jaws with orthodontics. They will require surgery after they have stopped growing. I have a male cousin who is 8 years old and his parents do not seem to want him to recei...

Bailey, we've been trying to be very sensitive to Josh and his inability to eat - especially while he was so hungry. But I don't think he would have been happy to be in a pizza place and not eat! LOL You must've enjoyed just getting out to go there! He has asked if we could blender up a cheeseburger...

I'm just curious... I didn't know 13 year olds can do jaw surgeries. My surgeon told me he can only operate until a patient's puberty is over. Could someone enlighten me on this subject? I have at least 3 cousins with the same jaw problem as me. I think this decision is best made case by case. Whil...

Josh is one week post op today. We made our 3rd trip to the Oral Surgeon and he is very pleased. He said Josh can start on soft foods. He was very hungry last night and today, so we were happy about that! He is able to talk well enough to understand, but does this drool and slurp thing a LOT. We are...

Hi Bailey! It sounds like your experience is shared with many others - a rough few days and then feeling better. Our son had upper jaw and chin surgery also on August 16th. We were quite worried about him for a few days because, like you, we could not get him to eat or drink much. He got very weak a...

What a difference a day makes!! Josh slept about 20 out of the last 24 hours and woke up this morning with very minor swelling. Mainly it's his upper lip. He has some light yellow bruising around his jaw, but he looks fantastic! He had pain meds at 4am and none since then. Doc said he looked very ve...

I went to the doctor today for a checkup and I was REALLY horrified to discovered that the surgical hooks are implanted in my gums???? WTH, is this normal? I kinda flipped out, which was insane considering that my bite splint was still in place. I'm really grossed out, and I couldn't practice putti...

Day 10 today, swelling is going down more and more every day.. still very numb in my chin and lower jaw.. my tongue also feels numb but i dont know if thats just because of all the numbness on the lower jaw or what. I can open my mouth about 1 finger. I'm still on percocet but I think within a day ...

Yes I cannot fathom how badly he must feel. I've not seen him so miserable. My sister in law and my niece had this surgery, but both only upper jaw. Josh had upper jaw plus chin. My sister in law kept telling me that her daughter, (also named AUDRA) was out the door to her friends in 8 days. I'm hop...

Thanks Audra. It just stabs into my heart, ya know? He is miserable today. We are doing our best, but I think there's just not a lot we can do but just wait and let his body heal. We are being sweet, compassionate and trying to treat him like a king, which he would normally love, but nothing is maki...

Now the tylenol with codeine just knocks him out. While sleeping is a good thing, yesterday I could only get 1 1/2 bottles of boost down him and maybe half a cup of juice. Today I got a bottle of boost but he cried and fussed and told me I was mean. I just don't know. I'm worried about him today. He...

He hates the taste/feel of the thick syrupy hydrocodone and just couldn't get it down. He'd gag it back up -- not good. Thank God he got the tylenol with codeine tablets. He's slept most of the day. He says he feels a weird tingly on his chin and nose. I'm guessing that feels like when your foot fal...

Yay -- glad your expander's coming out, too! Hopefully it'll be a relief! So fricken worried -- not even sure why. I don't even mind if it'll hurt (which it shouldn't still I'm still numb in spots and will have local anesthetic to boot), but the whole idea is creeping me out... 24 hours and it'll b...
