I should point out that one of my molar bands was positioned in a way that rubbed the underbelly of my tongue which was torture for me, so I went back to my ortho's office a few days ago and had them bend back the hooks until the hooks no longer made contact with my tongue. I didn't feel relief imme...

Today is my 6th day in braces and for the first 4 days the inside of my cheeks and lips were always sore. I didn't really use the wax b/c I just hated the idea of it so I followed my ortho's advice (and the advice given here) and started doing a warm salt water rinse several times a day, and it has ...

A question about brushing and flossing

Today is my 6th day is braces and I am beginning to get the hang of it. Eating is getting easier and as a result I am back to my normal eating habits (eating 5 or more times a day). For those of you who eat more than 3 meals a day, how do you handle brushing and flossing? Do you brush and floss afte...

I have given up red wine and other foods that might discolor my teeth but coffee, no way...I drink coffee (and all beverages for that matter) thru a straw. With coffee it helps w/ staining but with other drinks I figure the less sugar, etc. directly on my teeth the better. Also, I don't have to worr...

I was braced this past Monday @ 7:30 in the morning and was at my desk working by 9:30. Looking back over this past week the issue of whether or not to go into work was not a big deal. My biggest issue was how famished I was when lunch rolled around. My advice to anyone getting braces...MAKE SURE YO...

You're right Teresa, dry lips rank very low on my concern list at the moment but it does serve as a nice diversion. I have a difficult time w/ lip balms in general...they tend to make my lips dryer....even the so-called good ones. Right now I am using good ol' fashioned vaseline but am open to sugge...

I should clarify something....

When I say I am having "normal" pain I mean my teeth/gums overall are sore but I consider that to be a normal part of having braces, especially during the adjustment period.

My sensitive tooth on the other hand is on another level altogether.

Day three of my braces journey hasn't been very good so far. I just returned from the dentist and unfortunately I have an exposed root and will most likely need a root canal. The dentist has given me a cream to apply to the area hoping to avoid a root canal but it may or may not work. Also, the pain...

Well, I went to the ortho today and he filed the tooth in question (molar) to "relieve pressure" but to no avail...the sensitivity is still there so he thought I should see my dentist. I have an appt w/ the dentist tomorrow morning first thing. I am counting down the hours. Now for some go...

Nice progress!

Wow, what amazing progress and so fast! ! !

How long do you expect to be in braces?

I received my braces yesterday and already I feel my teeth loosening.

Thanks for posting your pics. Your progress gives me encouragement! :)

I was just braced yesterday and felt exactly the same but then came today... :) Today I feel much more overall soreness/discomfort and my teeth are beginning to feel loose in my mouth. I wouldn't say I am in severe pain but definitely more than yesterday. Unfortunately, I have a sensitive tooth that...

Thanks everyone for the nice comments. Today's process went smoothly but while brushing for the 1st time today (after lunch) I discovered a very sensitive tooth that sent me thru the roof! I have an appt w/ the ortho tomorrow morning to find out whether there is an underlying nerve/gum issue going o...

Sensitive Tooth

I received my braces today and am experiencing the same problem....ONE VERY SENSITIVE TOOTH. It was very painful to brush today. The sad thing is everything else is fine except for this one tooth. I hope it will go away because I don't think I can tolerate this level of pain with every brushing. I h...

I just returned from the ortho and my first thought was THEY'RE HUGE!!! Granted, I did opt for ceramic (which are larger than metal) and I already have large teeth and a large mouth so now my mouth looks ENORMOUS! Also, I smile differently. My lips now feel the friction from my teeth/braces so it al...
