Re: Surgery and OSAS

I had bi-max surgery plus genioglossus advancement for sleep apnea almost 3 years ago. My follow up sleep study 6 months later showed no signs of sleep apnea. I was scared as well but my recovery went much better than I expected. Good luck with your surgery!

Re: Too old?

I had jaw surgery 18 months ago. I was 45 at the time so 35 is definitely not too old.

Re: Surgeons who also have an M.D. ?

My surgeon here in Houston had his DDS and MD. I have Aetna insurance and they paid for him to do my surgery.

Re: Healing well after surgery.. but I still have an open bi

I am 18 months post op and still have an open bite on the right side. My orthodontist tells me the teeth will eventually come together. It has been a slow process but the gap continues to get smaller.

Re: Surgical gaps either side of canines

Regular veneers are half a millimeter thick so they have to shave your teeth that amount to make the veneers match your other teeth. My dentist recommended Lumineers which are thinner and require little to no prep work on the teeth. I have read that Lumineers are more prone to breakage though. With ...

Re: Surgical gaps either side of canines

I had bi-max surgery 1 year ago. My orthodontist created gaps in my upper teeth prior to surgery to allow the surgeon to move my lower jaw further forward. As the time to remove my braces got closer my orthodontist informed me she could not close the gaps with the braces because it would make my bit...

This doctor says that moving the lower jaw back can make sleep apnea worse so it makes sense that it could also cause sleep apnea. I had both jaws advanced to treat my sleep apnea. I hope this helps.

My hospital bill was $86,000. Insurance paid $38,000. I paid $1500. The rest was discounted.

Here is a link to the machine you are talking about. They are quite pricey to rent: http://shop.aqueductmedical.com/categor ... tegoryId=4

I had the same thing. A small incision on each cheek. I think it is fairly common for lower jaw surgery.

Yes. My insurance covered my jaw surgery but only because I had a severe enough overbite and jaw deformity. They would not cover it for the sleep apnea alone.

I had double jaw surgery and was not banded shut. I had elastics to train my jaw muscles to the new position but I could open my mouth wide enough to get the tube on the syringe into my mouth immediately after surgery.
