Re: 1 year post-op, swelling

Thanks, Sams. Two years actually gives me some hope. I can deal with it as long as it's not permanent. It's not clear whether or not you've had nose surgery in addition to jaw surgery, or if the nose issue is strictly due to jaw surgery. My nose is definitely wider now, especially when I smile. But ...

Re: 1 year post-op, swelling

Thanks for your reply. The reason why I haven't had a follow-up is because I've been out of the country since the surgery, but I'll schedule an appointment once I'm back. I've taken the required Ibuprofen post-op, but I don't know if taking it for a longer period is recommended. Do you think Ibuprof...

1 year post-op, swelling

Hi, It's been 12 months since my surgery and things are generally good. My main issue is the residual swelling: I'd say my face is about 80-85% puffiness-free, which isn't what I expected. It's noticeable in the sense that my face/profile looks "odd" and my upper lip is very puffy. I did h...

I'm 8 weeks in and I still feel puffy and uncomfortable, especially in the morning. I guess it's different for everyone, and I'm probably a slow healer. I'm curious about other people's responses.

There's really not that much difference between 8 and 10 days. But if you have the balls to go, keep us posted so we know how it went.

Can someone drive you and hang out with you? I was barely starting to feel human at 8 days. It was still hard to focus on anything other than my giantly numb face. Personally, I wouldn't have been able to go out, the main reason being I looked like a monster and couldn't speak clearly at all. And I ...

This was a big fear of mine! But when I woke up, I was really relaxed and drugged and far from freaking out. Kind of like when you wake up too early in the morning and your only focus is getting more sleep. I remember hearing the nurses talk about me and when I'll be out of the recovery room, but I ...

5 weeks post op

Hey guys, For those who had the surgery, how did you feel after 5 weeks? I'm still very swollen and numb, and my jaw is overall very uncomfortable and the tissue is stiff. I keep biting my tongue and I have some painful spasms. I do feel a little bit better every day, but I expected to feel a lot be...

It gets less and less brutal. Every day, you'll feel like the worst part is behind you. The day I got home, I had a major headache/faceache and complete body discomfort. I couldn't do anything at all. I started feeling better after I cleaned my nose and could breathe. Then, around day 7 something ha...

They started giving me the medication at the hospital. At first, the antibiotics were administered by IV, and then I moved on to liquid forms. I think that's the case for everyone, and there's no need to worry. Usually you're only released from the hospital once they make sure you'll be safe at home...

When can I gargle?!

I'm only on day 8 but I can't wait to close my lips and gargle like a human. I've been prescribed a mouth wash but it's not as effective as it should. Any tips on oral hygene? Is using a tongue scraper a good idea? How many weeks after the surgery could you gargle well, and how did you maintain good...

Hey everyone, My surgery wasn't cancelled, but I didn't have the energy to post about it until today. I'll try to be detailed since it's the beginning of the month. I wasn't nervous at all going in, which is good, because I thought I'd have a panic attack before getting anesthesia. But it was really...

I'm in a similar situation. I've had my braces for 1.5 years and did the surgery a week ago, and I'm studying abroad in September. Of course I'd have preferred to have my braces taken off before I leave, but that's an impossibility. I'll suck it up and keep then for another year, then come back and ...

One thing's for sure: The surgery's going to improve your face. As long as your expectations are realistic, I don't think you have anything to be anxious about. You should have a pretty good idea about the way your face is going to look after the surgery. Did you already discuss this with your surge...
