Re: 40 something researching braces for the first time...

Hi Nettie Convenience and opening hours are important because you'll be there about every six weeks! I travel from Southampton to London by train. It takes about two hours to get there, and it is definitely not convenient when something goes wrong eg wire poking into my cheek and causing a huge ulce...

Re: 40 something researching braces for the first time...

Hiya I'm 46 and have a brace. Been in it a year now. I had two upper teeth removed. Like you, I had several consultations, and it was never mentioned that I would need teeth out. However, I couldn't afford the treatment. I was lucky enough to be accepted by a student ortho dentisry school, and am be...

Springs and a nance button

Hi All I have a nance fitted. It's been in place nearly a year. I have an extraction gap at the top. Today I had springs put on, attached to the band which has the nance welded on, and just behind my canines. Surely, with a nance, my back teeth aren't going to move?!? I didn't think to ask, but as a...

Re: Should Nance button wiggle?

Hi, you have probably already sorted this, but my nance wiggled for ages. Eventually it seems the back teeth move forward until the button rests just behind the front teeth. It then can't move any further forward. Mine is rigid now. I've had mine nearly a year.

Painful hooks and clashing teeth!

Hi Rizzie Thank you for your message! Now that's a good idea, ask for lots of wax, and they might do something about it!. Well I'm under 8 stone anyway, and I lost another quarter a stone cos I couldn't eat properly, and eating was no longer fun! However, I've discovered Complan, and my sockets are ...

A full set of braces

So, finally yesterday I had the top train track fitted. My teeth are very tender, especially when brushing. I can't bite even a sandwich, and I'm still on easily chewed food like cake lol, and mashed potato. Will need to leave the molar build ups in for a good few months, until my front teeth move f...

Two teeth out

Hi, I had two upper 4th teeth out on Wed. The experience of having them pulled wasn't too bad. It's the mess after that isn't pleasant. First the dentist told me he would only pull one. I said, I'm having an upper brace fitted next week, I need them both out. After pulling the first, he admited he h...

My nance and bottom braces

Hi all Well I returned to Guy's today, and had my nance button and bottom braces fitted. What I didn't take into consideration was that where my front teeth go back into my mouth, they clash with my bottom braces. So they have had to build up my back molars at the bottom. Bit of a nightmare eating. ...

Bands rubbing my inner cheeks

Hi all Well the bands are really rubbing the inside of my cheeks, especially since they have these huge protrusions. Also, I bit my cheek, and once I'd done this once, I kept doing it. It looks sore! When I eat now, I'm very slow, and trying not to catch it again. And everytime I smile, my che...

Number of visits

Well, I've worked out that by the time I have a full set of braces in, I'll have been to London 11 times! But I'm not complaining, nearly there now. So looking forward to smiling at people with my braces in! Probably should be hiding them, but I won't care! Not sure whether trying to find a boyfrien...

This is something I wanted to ask too. Didn't think I could ask my orthodontist lol. I now have bands, and they're a bit sharp on the inside. Wondering if I can still give oral? Wouldn't want to slice anyone.
