I think the gums just swell up sometimes for no apparent reason - I have noticed some swelling today that also came up a couple of weeks ago. I think it's just because there is a lot of stress on the tissue and it just swells up in response to this sometimes. I wouldn't have thought it's anything to...

Topic: can gaps close without a powerchain?

Yes it is possible to close up some gaps without powerchains as my ortho did just that with a substantial-sized gap that had opened up in my 2 front bottom teeth. All he did was changed the position of the two brackets on my 2 teeth and the gap closed within a couple of weeks. I don't think that met...

Whoa, 116 word sentence there. Calm down.
You counted that??!!!

Leah, that's cool you have an ortho like that - means you can be proactive in your treatment. Just as long as he makes sure he does his bit as he should then I'm sure that's cool.

On this subject does anyone appear to be getting staining of the teeth themselves? Since getting my powerchains (which are behind my wires because I have Damon 3s) It's even more difficult to get in there to clean them properly and my teeth are looking decidedly yellow. Anyone got any comments on th...

After reading all these posts I'm afraid I'm still no closer to understanding what you're getting at Butterfly...I thought you wanted to know if there were general differences between European and US attitudes about braces but you seem to have veered off the subject somewhat and seem to be digging t...

I have now got powerchains on to close up this one particular gap (the whole reason for me getting braces!) which lies between my very front top tooth and the one next door to it. Well I'm pleased to report it's closing up nicely (I've had the powerchain on about 4 weeks) but on the other side, eith...

Gosh what an unfortunate situation to be in! To be free of your braces then to be told you need them again. Well though it would be a tough decision I would probably have them applied again but refuse to pay any more money, opt for ceramic ones and ask him for a different type of retainer next time ...

Yes arches can be expanded with braces alone - in fact Damon 3s are apparently especially good for this as they can eliminate the need for extractions and yet still widen the arches leaving enough room for all the teeth. Of course, I'm not an orthodontist and I don't know about your individual case ...

My goody bag was highly unexciting - 1 V-shaped manual toothbrush, 1 tiny container of wax, some disclosing tablets, one interdental brush, a sheet on what not to eat and that was it. Hmmmmmmmm and how much am I paying for al this!!!??? Not that I'm ungrateful...

Gosh I'm doing that too... pushing on the clicky ones with my tongue 'helping' them along. Agh it's really hard to stop doing things like that but I'm gonna try and stop as I wouldn't like to carry the habit over after getting them removed!

That's good then...can't think what the rough surface might be other than glue unless there is some sort of surface damage. It could also be a tartar build-up which can be hard to scrape off sometimes - try one of those scaling pick things - they sell them in the dental section of Boots! Hope this h...

Is the rough part definitely not glue? I remember when I got my first set of braces removed some leftover glue was there for months and one day I managed to scrape it of with my thumb nail. Also are you wearing your retainers as you were advised? Just wondering if that one tooth is wanting to move s...
