Adjustments can vary in discomfort. My first one was hard. Taking Ibuprofin beforehand did help. Then eating softer foods. Seems that is typically the way it works with adjustments. The first couple of days after one are always a "pain". But the discomfort does go away.

I'll be using wax every time I feel the need. Why be in pain at all when a little wax will help. I'm at the end of year two and have wax in my mouth right now. Why do you feel the need to wean off it? You won't be using it for life and it is not harmful.

I have the same issue. Had a bridge removed to move my back teeth in place and there is a swelling of my gums between the back two molars now. Curious to see what others say..
