Any way, this Friday I will be fitted with a splint, it is supposed to realign my jaw at its most comfortable position, after this happens, my jaw relaxes and my tmj gets better I will have braces to fix my bite and teeth according to the new relaxed and physically right position. I hope this helps...

It's really hard to know what is best. I've read a lot of information that says orthodontia or any change in an already bad bite can actually make TMJD worse! If you go to this website, there are many research trials going on right now - and prior studies, so far have not been able to prove that any...

TMJD prior to braces?
Hi - just wondering how many people on here were told they had TMJD prior to getting braces and IF so, did you try treating the TMJD prior to being braced, or did you opt to just get the braces hoping it would improve your TMJ discomfort? If you treated before braces - - for how long and with what k...

Ceramic, self ligating brackets would cost $750 more for me per arch - so $1500 on top of cost for metal self ligating. There is a big part of me that thinks that is money well spent as I don't like the way all metal looks - but the cons are they are more bulkier and harder to remove. So I'm on the ...

We have helped many migraine sufferers, neckache sufferers and those suffering pain from facial musculature. GREAT to know! But - can't the NTI actually shift the bite? It says on their website it is a possibility and not all patients with malocclusions are candidates. >In fact my TMJ ortho protoco...

Being a longtime sufferer of TMJD (possible causes are my bad bite AND periods of intense stress in my life) and suffering with having cracked a tooth and subsequently had a root canal in that tooth (a molar) which did not work and I eventually had it extracted - as well as major left sided pain in ...

How can you have an open bite and not realize it???? Other people can't see that my bite is open unless I tilt my head back and put my teeth together and show them the space. And then I show them how I can't possibly make my front teeth meet. But I'd figure anyone who has an open bite knows it thems...

I guess every person is different. I've heard of people's teeth shifting literally overnight - I wonder if that is actually possible? Anyone know if your having a posterior crossbite corrected and the ortho says you will have permanent bonded retainers top and bottom - how do those (front) retainers...

In regards to surgery I thought I read that you had a narrow upper jaw and that lead me to believe you likely had a posterior crossbite. I wasn't talking about sx for the open bite. Sorry didn't mean to confuse things with my reply. Dr. Rick you are right - yes, I do have a narrow upper jaw. Not ho...

>Sounds like what is called neuromuscular dentisrty (they also do neuromuscular orthodontics -- moving the teeth to match the position determined by the TENS, etc without crowning the teeth) Thanks Dr. Rick. Yes one of his specialities is neuromuscular dentistry. I forgot to mention that. I saw a NM...

I forgot some additional, important information: My upper arch is quite narrow. My teeth are kind of moving inwards. He watched the way I swallow and sees my tongue is pushing my teeth out. He said I will continue to do this with braces and once braces are off. All orthos have said they can't widen ...
