Hygienist with braces

I have a hygienist appointment coming up and forgot to tell my orthodontist about it. Do I need to have the wires taken out so she can give my teeth a proper clean?

I have lingual braces if this makes a difference

Alcohol makes my speech bad again even 3 month in. I sound v drunk after a glass of wine. Somehow if I have one too many I always have a sore tongue again the next day. I guess it makes your tongue lazy and it cat he's the brackets.

Lulu did you get my private message? Also I meant to say take the wax off if you have it to help with speech, NOT if it's because you have a sore tongue. The cement stuff shouldn't be between your teeth! My ortho used floss to make sure my teeth hadn't been bonded together - otherwise they can't mov...

LuLu don't panic! I felt the same when I got my upper linguals fitted, the brackets felt huge and intrusive. It probably is a bit harder as you don't gave a wire yet so you can feel the individual brackets more. I promise it will get better! It's almost the weekend. As soon as you are off work I'd r...

Welcome to the world of linguals, LuLu. It sounds like your lisp isn't too bad, but keep your wax/silicone to hand and keep talking (reading anything out loud, not just the boring rainbow passage!). I find my lisp comes back when I'm tired, have had a drink or if my tongue is sore. I had trouble wit...

Yuck!
Wax wax and more wax (or more to the point sillicone) to cover the wire and if it's really painful then call your ortho's emergency number.
I have swallowed a bit of my brace but not a bracket thank goodness.

Oh and I've not noticed the metal showing through on photos - although I do think in real life that my teeth look a little grey but nobody else has mentioned it so I may be imagining it.

Hi Hannah Just a quickie reply to some of your questions... Kissing is Ok with linguals - well my husband hasn't been put off and has definitely never cut his tongue. When you first get the braces your tongue will get cut to ribbons for the first few days but then it gets used to the brackets and no...

Oh no!! It sounds like you're going through the wars :( Speechwise are you practicing lots? Are you sure people can notice the difference or is it just you who notices? Have you tried reading the Rainbow Passage, Comma Gets A Cure and Arthur The Rat? I think they really help (as does any reading out...

Hi from a fellow newbie. I have had linguals for about 3 weeks now. Like you it's not because of overcrowding. In my case it's due to some genetic thing which means I don't have enough adult teeth so the braces are to pull the teeth I do have together (after removing a few milk teeth on the way - ye...

s00102 Thanks for the reply. Gums are feeling much better now. It's just my Tongue that has cuts on it now but a friend has recommended some brilliant mouth ulcer stuff today so I'm sure they will heal quickly too. How are you getting on with your braces? I wish this board was busier - it would be a...

Lower incognito and gum pain?

Hi I'm a newbie here.

Have had my upper braces for 3 weeks and just had the lowers fitted 3 days ago. One side of my mouth has really sore gums - almost like they are cut. Is this normal? I didn't e perience this with the uppers.
Thanks for any advice
