Plastic surgeon vs Maxillofacial Surgeon
About 12 years ago, I had lower jaw surgery. I should have had the double jaw surgery, to correct the maxillary cant, but it wasn't done. The doctor, Dr Felice O'Ryan, also moved my chin forward about 3 mm, which looks masculine and crooked and I hate it. I am a girl. This genioplasty also accentuat...

Oh sorry you specified Kaiser doc. No, don't know any good ones in LA, but there probably are. FYI: Stay away from Dr Kim in San Marcos. Dr Londo in San Diego might be allright.

Wow, I didn't know he was leaving. He's awesome. Sorry to hear that for your sake. Don't know of any good ones in LA. Just Arnett/Gunson in SLO or Dr Berger in San Diego.

What's the best insurance to cover cost of braces, etc?
Wondering what insurances archwired members are using to get reasonable coverage for ortho and orthognathic surgeries I'm currently paying @$400/month for medical and dental. Since it's Kaiser it's an HMO and the dental only covers half my dental costs. I'm letting go of this real soon. Instead I'm ...

Re: Dr Schendel
I actually saw Dr Schendel when I lived in San Jose about 6 years ago. My original surgeon recommended him for the revision I was seeking, since I was no longer with her insurance. I consulted with him, but it was hard for me to get a read on him, as he was very quiet and I was concerned that he was...

Re: SLIDING GENIOPLASTY REGRETS!!
I understand what you're saying. the same thing happened to me. Except mine is much more crooked. I had an underbite and so my jaw was moved backward, but Dr O'Ryan slipped the chin forward, but must've slipped it forward at an angle, cause it looks lopsided. Also, I have an a flat arthritic left TM...

Re: Dr Schendel
Stephen Schendel, right? He's got a good rep. Last I knew he was working up at Stanford in Palo Alto. That was 7 years ago. I've heard he's laid back and thorough. That's about all I know, though.

@chicago29 and colorado: I totally see your point about Arnett/Gunson. I've decided to seek elsewhere as they are way too expensive and time consuming for the average person like me. Thanks for the info.

Anyone have a maxillary cant levelled out?
Due to a flat arthritic left TMJ, that tends to completely slip out of its socket, I have a right maxillary cant. This means my upper jaw tilts downard on the right, giving me a lopsided appearance. Has anyone had a similar issue with resolution. I'd love to hear about your experience and outcomes.
