saurkraut - glad its getting better with elastics! Its crazy how fast things move. At first I could fit my whole tongue between my back teeth and after 2 weeks with bands on side is actually partially touching and the other very close. I am also overall pretty happy I didn't do the upper jaw. I have...

Chicago - a saggital split means an angled cut in the bone on the longitudinal plan. If you looked at your jaw bone from the top (top being the teeth surface), imagine a thin rectangle, and the cut would be done in a diagonal plan on that. That way, they can slide the bone forward or back and have a...

I was lucky in the sense that one of my coworker went throught this 2 yrs ago with my surgeon, so she understands what I was going to go through, etc, but I still think this forum is more helpful as people are dealing with it at the moment. Someone compared this to childbirth in the sense that you k...

Colorado - Cannot agree more about the annoyance of pain/swelling. My oral mucosa just won't heal, particularly in front of my bottom lip - it just keeps digging in my braces. At the end of my weekend from hell at work Sunday night I was about to cry because I was out of wax and couldn't do anything...

my surgeon wanted to see me in the office once a week for 4 weeks post op, then at 6 weeks, then he said he would see me every 8-12 weeks after that My orthodontist saw me at 4 weeks post op and my next appointment is at 8 weeks - so not much different than pre op. He told me he expected braces 3-9m...

See I was doing ok for the first few weeks cause I was so swollen I couldnt really tell how I would look so while I felt the cabin fever I was ok with the surgery. Now, this week (almost 6 weeks post op) I feel like I didn't make the right decision and I'm still not good looking. I didn't do my uppe...

Thanksgiving feast!

What did you all were able to eat on this holiday? I managed - Mac and Cheese - a noodle at a time - Grits. The best part. - Cranberry sauce - Pecan Pie filling (sorry for those stuck with the crust/pecans! :) ) Don't recommend trying to eat coleslaw without chewing. That didn't go down very smoothly!

Since most of my "october buddies" seem to have migrated here, I'll put my first day back to work update here Good lord, was it a long day! I'm 5 weeks out today and had to do a 10hrs day at the ER with pretty sick dogs and cats. After about 5 hrs I was EXHAUSTED!! And I really had to make...

elizabeth - are you still taking narcotic pain meds? I'm pretty sensitive to it as far as the respiraty depression goes, and I sometimes would start drifting and almost feel like I couldn't breath/was choking and wake in a panic gasping. This may be part of your issue. Also your airway is likely sti...

elizabeth - while my recovery went well, I can totally relate to you with the night in hospital. THANK GOD my good friend, a vet tech, spend the night with me and was able to fix the suction tubes and such cause the nurses were USELESS. I'm a veterinarian, so it's not like I over react to crap as I ...

sauerkraut - I was browsing throught the thread and saw your post about having an open bite now. I remember you were in the same situation as me as far as advancing one vs 2 jaws. Did he say if this is happening because you did only lower? And what do they call "open bite"? Cause both my s...

Colorado - great results too! You look so much younger too! Did both your jaws get moved forwards? If so, almost makes me regret not doing the upper as well, oh well, not going back now:)

thanks everyone!
Not really sure why the first 3 pics are so large and the last one so small, but I guess you can still see the difference! Pretty happy with results so far! And for those hesitating to go ahead with this, it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, and I don't regret it a bit
