Re: Lingual Braces Journey started . . .

I find that if I only eat small pieces and chew with my back teeth, I can eat almost anything (a couple of brackets came off early on as I got used to doing this, but since then it's been okay).

Re: Changing ortho

I'm not sure of your rights, although I suspect you're not in great shape. Have you told your current orthodontist of your concerns? Is he trying to fix them? It might be awkward but it's well worth saying something. If you're unsure about their competency, getting a second opinion is probably a pre...

Re: Treatment Longer Than Expected :-(

well i was told 24 to 30 months coming up on 4 and a half years now Get a second opinion? Getting treatment extended is rubbish; I've been deliberately avoiding asking about whether I'm "on schedule" since it will only depress me if I'm not. Now I'm starting to see real changes though, it...

Re: Changing Archwire

I think I've had 3-4 wire changes in the 6 months (wow that feels like a long time) I've had mine. I believe they replace the wires with stiffer ones each time to encourage movement. One time he tried to put the wire on, but it wouldn't stay in place, so he postponed that until the next visit and pu...

Re: why do wires come later?

I had upper and lower a week apart, both with wires at the same time. Lower linguals probably aren't as bad as upper, although i have swallowed one lower bracket which came off while eating. They are a bit more visible than the uppers (although I'm 4 months in, and still nobody has commented), so if...

Sounds like you're doing really well given you've only had them on for a few days. In my first week my speech was terrible and my tongue was really really sore, but it soon improved. Wax is useful at the start (and I needed it again after my first adjustment) but now I don't use it and it doesn't hu...

I had mine fitted a week apart, but I think this was purely to give me time to get used to having it in my mouth. He felt that both at the same time would be too much. Unless they're fitted a long time apart, I can't imagine it would matter hugely (but I am only guessing).

Best encouragement that I can give is that I've been at uni 3 weeks now, and nobody has commented on my speech at all. Thanks for that. Could that just be because they don't want to be rude though? Has your speech been affected at all? How have you found them? Any regrets? Well, they don't know abo...

Re: Location

I am seeing Chelsea Dental and Dermal clinic on Markham Street. Me too. I paid 3750 for upper and lower, reduced by 10% for paying up front. In response to original post, I'm at uni too and nobody has noticed them. Uppers are entirely invisible, lowers can be seen a bit if I'm leaning forward, but ...

I think it varies by person - I found spag bol was the only thing I wasn't able to eat because I couldn't get my tongue in the right position to force myself to swallow the spaghetti. I didn't find I had to adjust my diet much (apart from avoiding nuts and crusty bread) as long as I chopped stuff up...

Sorry to hear about your problems. I've had mine about a month and am still getting minor speech problems, although nobody has mentioned it yet (I have to repeat myself more than normal). Is there literally not enough room for you to form the sounds, even if you take time to form them carefully? I f...
