Re: What??!! They're not coming off today??!!!

Aw Jethro and Poppy123, I'm so sorry to hear that! But I commend both of y'all for having such positive outlooks as well as patience! Lord knows not all of us would react so well to that kind of news. I know it's hard to hear now, but in the end your teeth will look amazing and a few years down the ...

Question everyone wants answered...

...how much longer?! +\+ It's the number one question that is always on mind  . I'm sure we all dream about our D-Day but I feel like the people who have reached the one or two year mark are a little more eager to get that answer. I, unfortunately, am one of those people. It is especially toug...

Re: What to do during the braces process?

Hey drgnchsr36! I wish I could tell you why my ortho decided to do that  . I was honestly confused by the whole thing. The only answer I can think of is he put my brackets on before I had my extractions done. He obviously skipped putting brackets on all my 1st 4 premolars since those were the ...

Re: What to do during the braces process?

I know this sounds really strange, but when I had my brackets put on, I actually fell asleep for a little while. That's how easy it was. My case was different though, I had brackets put on almost 2 weeks before a wire was placed.

Re: 4 Extractions at one go

I had all of my 1st premolars out in one sitting. It's not as bad as you think. The hard part comes after when you have to learn how to chew again and not get food stuck in the gaps  . I guess the worst part was that they numbed my mouth A LOT. I think I had a total of 12 or 13 injections. But...

Re: Chewing Gum

Both of my orthodontists (I moved halfway through treatment and had to get a new ortho) have recommended chewing gum after an adjustment. It really does help ease the pain and soreness. I also like to pop a piece of gum in after I have coffee if I don't have the time/privacy to brush. It helps preve...

Re: HeyBuckey!'s Story

HeyBuckey! I've read your story and wow! Your teeth look absolutely amazing, now it's just time for the home stretch! I've always told all my friends it's easy to have braces on when you see your teeth are not straight, but when they are almost straight, that's when things get tough cause all you ca...

Re: What must we 'never' eat

We don't give our patients a "never eat" list. With braces you can still eat everything you used to have before. The only key is that you will be eating them a bit differently. For instance, it's better not to bite into an apple with your front teeth to avoid breaking off brackets. You ca...

Re: 4 Second Premolar Extraction

I had all 4 of my 1st premolars out as well in April 2009. So far 2/4 gaps have closed :jump: . My bottom right and top left gap still have a long way to go :x. My ortho has tried a number of things (power chains/ties, and ligatures). I was wondering if anyone knew if elastics were the normal route ...

Re: Solving Gum Recession Before Braces?

I think it also has something to do with treatment time. My ortho emphasized that the healthier your teeth and gums were, the faster your teeth would move. Which is also the reason flossing is so important! Hope this helps :D! And welcome to the Board!

...the day your braces come off? Hey y'all, just figured with all these topics on how much we hate braces and all the orthodontic troubles we run into, we should have a more uplifting topic! So just wanted to know what are some of y'alls plans when the big day arrives? For me, my sister is almost mo...

Littleviolet, I was in your shoes not too long ago. I was braced when I was 20 too and I was terrified that all my dating prospects would go out the window. I couldn't be more wrong! As soon as I got my braces, it seemed like I got more attention. My roommates would joke that my braces were like a m...

I drink coffee everyday at work. I'm a night owl and coffee is the only thing that keeps me going through the day. I make mine with lots of cream but I too, drink it with a straw. It may feel weird at first but it does prevent a lot of staining. I also try swish my mouth with water every few sips. I...

Hi y'all! Wow I didn't expect so many responses, thank you! I think I'm going to start with baby steps and work my way up to actually brushing my teeth at work. I'm going to get the travel size Listerine as well as the collapsible cup and toothbrush and dry brush. As soon as I work my confidence bac...

Question about hygiene during braces! Need help please.

Hi! First of all I'm new to this board and I just want to say I hope everyone's treatment is going well. I'm 21 and I've had braces now for about 17 months. Anyways, I recently started a full time job where we only have an hour lunch break. I know that it's advised to brush after every meal but I do...
