Re: newbie, 32 & still unsure about going ahead with braces.

Go for it! I'm 31 and one year in and I'm so glad that I did it. I even got married last Spring with my braces. I'm at the point now, where I barely even think about them, (except at night, when I floss, still a huge pain). It's really worth it. The time really flies and you will have a great smile ...

Gum Recession

Has anyone experienced gum recession since getting braces? Looking in the mirror last night, it looked to me like my gums have receded significantly (at least in my mind) since getting braces. I had a regular dental check-up and cleaning a little less than 2 weeks ago and was told everything was loo...

Re: had a "Kim" wire with your elastics?

smilelikeyoumeanit: Looks like we are very similar with our brace dates. I am 8 months with uppers and 2.5 months with my lowers. I get the stupid crazy wires in September....I bet you are getting yours around that time as well? Keep us posted on your visit today! Do you have an open bite as well? ...

Re: had a "Kim" wire with your elastics?

I'm getting one of these in the future. I'm scared. It is weird that it's so hard to find info online. From what I understand, it's a relatively new technique. I have an adjustment today. Hopefully, I can get a better time table.

Re: Bite turbos, molar build-ups, bite plates

I have molar build-ups and I don't mind them. They are definitely weird at first, but after a a couple of days, they were fine. I do have some trouble chewing fine things, such as thing spaghetti, or anything shredded, but have managed to eat most things. I also haven't had any trouble with them bre...

Wacky Bracket

I have one bracket that keeps popping off. It's so frustrating. It's on my first molar on my bottom arch. It first happened to me on Friday night while sleeping. I went yesterday to get it reattached. I do have a deep bite and started to hit that one particular bracket slightly, so my ortho put mola...

Re: wax/silicon wax question

I sleep with wax on all of the time. I've also swallowed it a couple of times (accidentally, of course). I'm perfectly fine. I don't think it's too much of a choking hazard. My ortho gave me silicon wax, but I've only been able to find regular wax in the drug store. I actually prefer the regular wax...

Re: Q's regarding class II treatments

I have an overjet and deep bite (I'm not sure of the measurements). My ortho said that only surgery would correct the problem 100%. I decided against it, so we're hoping for about a 75-80% correction. I'm happy with that. I will have elastics at some point, and a very loopy looking wire to pull my f...

Re: Getting Braces today!

I feel like they are a bit rougher. I have Damon braces on both my top and bottom teeth; I hear that they are bulkier than regular braces anyway, so I feel like my ceramics and metals have the same level of bulkiness :) .

Re: Getting Braces today!

I have ceramics on top and just got metal braces on the bottom. I love my ceramic braces! They look nice and for me were so much less painful than the metal. My metal braces hurt! My top braces were a breeze compared to my metal bottom braces.

Good luck!

Re: Having braces removed temporarily

I have ceramic braces and am getting married in April. I have thought a lot about this and have decided that I am probably going to keep my braces on for my wedding. In pictures, with ceramic braces, it is really hard to tell, if at all, that I have braces on. I may have my wire taken out for my wed...

Re: food stuck in extraction gaps !!!!

Yes, the syringe with water is great. I used it when I had my wisdom teeth removed. I was grossed out by the amount of food that I rinsed out of there. I recommend getting one if you can.

Re: Second guessing

I got ceramic braces on my top teeth in November as well. I'm getting metals on my bottom teeth in January. I too am 30 and work with the public (mostly with high school students, and they can be judgemental!) I'm also getting married in April. I was extremely self-conscious at first. I didn't feel ...

I say smile away! Life's too short. You are probably the only one, when looking at the picture, that is focusing on your teeth. Everyone else is just looking at a happy moment with friends.

Re: how often can i get my braces tightened

I got my top braces on November 8th and don't go back until January 10th. At first I thought that was a long time, but my ortho told me that she wants a specific tooth to move a specific way before moving to a thicker wire, putting my lower braces on. Everyone is different. Try not to stress too much.
