Re: Whats so bad about headgear? (girl afraid to get TADs/OB

In fact, I have not heard of anyone here having them under local. You are very brave to go through all that! Makes me shudde...

Glad they went well for you 50+ - you can't be too careful nowadays since isn't 50 the new 30 ;) ?? Chicagogal, thanks for the update, best of luck for your surgery in the next couple of weeks, I would love to hear how you go. Hopefully it will be a breeze - be brave! (well, you are much braver than...

Re: JessieJ’s story – so it begins

The metal things look like the bracket attached to the adult canines in the palate. This is right JessieJ? The ortho will move these teeth into the arch.

Re: Questioning having Lefort 1 Osteotomy in a couple weeks

Hi Ryan, I have an anterior open bite and have just been bracketed today. I, like you, also really want to avoid surgery and would not have embarked on orthodontics if it meant I definitely had to have a Le Fort 1. My open bite is not really noticeable to others and although I can eat a sandwich I f...

Chicagogal, I am not as brave as you - definitely general anaesthesia for me! I was a bit worried at first about having these plates put in, but as far as oral surgery goes it is pretty minor I have been told. Funny, when I first went to the ortho I was just testing the water to see if I was a candi...

Chicagogal I am getting bone plates too (my ortho calls them 'skeletal anchorage plates'). In my case it is to move my molars back and push them deeper into the bone to close my open bite. They will be inserted in about six months time under general anaesthesia. From what I have heard, they are more...

Don't ask/tell me: - 'why don't you just get veneers instead?' [like, veneers are a benign thing to do to a full mouth of perfectly healthy teeth? What planet are they from?] - (another vote here for:) 'there's nothing wrong with your teeth!' - 'so what if you can't bite through a sandwich/lettuce/...
