That depends - I missed a doctor's appointment because mine took over two hours because of my TMJ. If you have TMJ or any other jaw problems it can take much longer. I had a really, really hard time keeping my mouth open through the pain. My orthodontist stopped frequently to allow my jaws to relax....

Luckily I was able to get my before pics from the orthodontist, though. If you really want them, I'm sure you'd just have to ask....

As soon as my ortho put my braces on I told her that I was biting one of my bottom brackets so she put something on my molar to build it up and it made it much better. Definitely mention it to your ortho.

pucca26 . . . no I don't have any before pics. I had them posted on this board but deleted them from my pc. when I came back here to find the pics I realized that because they were posted before september 05 they were deleted. thus, no pics. i wish I had them.

congrats! it does look painful, though. the type i had wasn't the type you turn with a key - and i had it the first time i was braced, not this time. my 7 year old daughter will be getting one in the near future, however. good luck with it!
