Re: Passport and Surgery
My passport expires four weeks after the surgery. I guess that it can wait since I won't be planning any major trip right after.

Passport and Surgery
Here is a good question for you all. I am supposed to have surgery (lower jaw advancement) on September 17. My passport is expiring the following month. Should I get my passport pictures taken before the surgery? If I don't then, how long will it take for my face to look normal again?

I trust that your surgeon knows what he is doing. I don't see why he would be looking for the money or the business AND risking his reputation for performing surgery in less than ideal conditions. Good luck!

Re: first post :)
To be perfectly honest, I find no problem with your face or profile. I am no dentist, orthodontist or surgeon, but my advice is: think about it carefully before starting such a journey. I feel my braces every hour, every day and wish that I didn't have to go down that road. And I will have jaw advan...

Re: Jaw Surgery in Canada
I think that you should read the laws about immigration very carefully before making any plans about medical treatments. Canada is indeed a very generous country, but puts the needs of its citizens first. Also, the waiting times are long, even for the citizens. Orthodontics is a private industry, he...

Re: Lingual Bars causing me too many problems, is it worth i
Well, I don't know what to say, and others may have more useful comments for you. One thing, though, stroke me: you are eating chips and apples. Since I had my linguals on, I have never touched an apple or chips. These, and other foods, are on my forbidden list.

Re: Saw two surgeons, both quacks; no idea where to go from
The two surgeons must have taken into consideration your general health too. That might explain why they don't want to operate on you. Are you strong enough to go through the pain, the stress, the surgery itself or to cope with results that might not be what you are expecting? They are trained to as...

Re: why do i still feel ugly
I have read most of your postings lately, and I feel that I should tell you that you need counselling. I don't know the reasons why you had surgery in the first place, and I suppose that they were valid, but you do seem to have problems with self-esteem and self-image. Is it that you are too preoccu...

Re: Should I get surgery?
My advice to anybody who considers having surgery without needing it is always the same: don't! I will have to have BSSO, and I am dreading it. Surgery always involves pain, disruption in you work and personal life and risks. There is no such thing as a sure thing. You don't know what will come out ...

Re: still having trouble eating with upper linguals
I have had mine since Dec. 17, and eating has gotten easier, but it still is not great. Have you tried drinking with straws? It helped me in the first few days. Small bites helps too. The only plus I see in eating slowlier is that I am losing weight. Hang in there! We will survive this!

I had everything put on on the same day: upper, lower and wires. I guess every orthodontist works differently.
