Re: Why did you have surgery?
I never saw my jaw problem as a cosmetic issue... Well, I never realised it was an issue until I turned 18.
I mainly did it because I couldn't breathe properly and eating was incredibly hard too.

Re: Heres My Story
okay back to the surgery, as i said i am scared! even though i dont even have a date set. but can i ask how they cut into your jaw from the inside of your mouth- better yet the surgon explained that they have to cut the inner and the outter lower jaw on an angle so they can slide the bone forward. ...

Re: January Buddies
Hey everyone! :) My ortho said that as long as it is not "dead dumb" (i.e. you have felt some tingling or pain), then you should be fine and the feeling is most likely to come back. My ortho also said that I should be able to get my braces off on the 9th of June (3 days before my birthday!...

Re: What day for solid food?
I started having soft food about four days after surgery and I've been pretty much back to normal eating since about two months after the surgery

Re: what are phases from numbess to regaing feeling?
I've heard that experiencing sharp pain or tingling is a good sign that feeling will return. It's been about 2 months and 1 week since my surgery and feeling still hasn't returned to my lower lip/chin... My doctor said it can take up to twelve months to return :\

Re: Please Help!!...Trouble breathing after surgery (nasal)
My nose was so stuffy after surgery... it was massively blocked with blood. I don't know how I ended up breathing for those few nights after surgery :\ It did get a lot better after the surgery because I was finally able to clean it about three or four days after the surgery. After that, I was able ...

Re: help how can i get medicare to help pay most of my surge
Medicare is really annoying because they don't seem to cover a lot of your dental expenses. Even though you're having surgery on your jaws, it's all related to the teeth... and that's something that Medicare doesn't cover. They probably gave me about just over 1% of my expenses (for the surgery alon...

Re: Saw two surgeons, both quacks; no idea where to go from
That doesn't look that bad, too be honest. I think your problem could be possibly fixed with braces and elastics as I've seen someone on this forum with a similar problem. I had an massive overbite, crowding and also had to undergo some surgically assisted expansion of my upper jaw... and this is my...

Re: Sleeping position must change
After I had jaw surgery, I asked my surgeon if it was okay to start sleeping back on my side (Before, I had to sleep on my back in an elevated position) He said that I can sleep in any way except I shouldn't sleep 'on top of my head' / whilst doing a head stand :-* But apart from that, I've never he...

Re: Just got braced
I've noticed a lot of people on this forum using a 'waterpik' (http://www.waterpik.com.au/)... I've never used it but it looks like an excellent (or even better) substitute for thread flossing.

Do you have any pictures of your bite/teeth? That might help us in trying to understand your situation a bit better.

Re: Has swelling ever RETURNED? Any ideas why it happens?
My swelling keeps going up and down but I think that's mainly due to the extremely hot weather we're having here in Australia. I hope that this is normal. I mean, my swelling isn't spiking out of control but sometimes I feel more puffiness on some days than others.

Re: January Buddies
Hey everyone, I feel pretty energetic... or maybe I've been forcing myself to feel that way. I was out all day yesterday as I was training at my uni for the mentoring program. Basically, I'll be mentoring a group of first year students tomorrow. It's pretty daunting though since I still can't seem t...

Re: when to get jaw surgery
The first thing I had done was that I had an expander placed into the roof of my mouth. I then had my SARPE surgery and the surgeon also removed all my wisdom teeth. A few months later when the expansion was complete, I had braces put on. A whole year later, I had my upper and lower jaw surgery. It'...
