I have the clear Essix retainers and they look like the one in the picture. Although, mine does look like it fits a little better than the one in the picture. I don't really care what it looks like though, because I only have to wear them at night. I have only had them a few weeks, and they are alre...

When I was debraced, and my ortho said I was getting Essix retainers, the first thing he told me was that they could be used as whitening trays. I guess they are pretty much the same as the whitening trays they would make if you were just doing the whitening. I have used them a few times for whiteni...

When I first got my braces, I thought to myself, "What was I thinking? This is horrible!" But before long, I was used to them and it was no big deal at all. Actually, when I got my braces off the other day, the ortho asked if I was excited. I said not really, I could continue wearing them ...

I'm just thinking that if I had Hawley's, I wouldn't have the "off bite" thing for hours after I take the retainers out. I'm going to ask how much they will cost me.

I hate my Essix retainers!

When I got my braces off on Wednesday, the assistant asked my ortho "Essix or Hawley"? He said Essix. I asked her if they were as good as Hawley and she said yes, it's what she wears. They also told me I could use them as bleaching trays, which I had been looking forward to. So I got them....

My son and I go to the same ortho, and we were both told to wear our retainers only at night. They told me if my retainer felt too tight wearing it only during sleeping, that I should wear it a few hours longer. They never told me to wear it during the day, or forever. After about a year, they said ...

Thanks for all of the good wishes everyone. Well, I have used the whitening gel for two nights in a row now and have not noticed a difference. Hopefully it is going to work. Have to admit though, I'm not loving the Essix retainers. When I take them out in the morning, it feels like my back teeth do ...

And........they're off!

I know I don't post here a lot, and never post pictures, but I just wanted to post about my debracing. I went in today and they just popped those suckers right off, no problem. Then they scraped the excess cement off, and then used some kind of electric sander thing to get the rest of the cement off...

I have had this done several times on my upper lip. They always give me some gauze to cover my top braces with. This gives a little padding so your braces won't cut the inside of your lip since they have to press down on your lip with the laser. Cutting the inside of your lip would be the only probl...

I had a call from my ortho the night before my consultation appointment. We recently started going to a new general dentist. My husband had two appointments recently for fillings. The dentist called him later in the evening both times to see how he was doing. I was shocked. It's great to know that t...

Retainer question

I don't have my retainers yet (September), but my son recently got his braces off and has Hawley retainers. He was instructed to only wear them at night. By the end of the day of not wearing them, one of his front bottom teeth is crooked. After wearing the retainers all night, in the morning all the...

Has anyone NOT had powerchains during treatment?

I had a powerchain once, at the very beginning of my treatment. I'm thinking maybe the assistant didn't know what she was doing or something, because shortly after, she was gone, and I have not had a powerchain since! My son always had powerchains.

One of my top front teeth was just a tad bit longer than the other, so I had that filed down. I asked about having other teeth shaped a bit and I was told they would do that when I get my braces off, which will be in September!

I was horrified with how my son's teeth looked after he got his braces off, they looked so dark and dirty, except where the brackets were. I couldn't get him a dental cleaning appointment for about a month, so I bought some Rembrandt Intense Stain toothpaste. We saw results immediately. He has been ...

I got the same survival kit as Jillian. My son recently had his braces removed at the same ortho I use, and he received a big water bottle loaded with all the candy you're not supposed to eat while in braces. I thought I had read somewhere that our ortho gives you a certificate for a free portrait w...
