On average, how many orthodontists should one test out for consults? My dentist gave me 3 cards because he said I could get some very different opinions?

I'm from Washington state.

This sounds awful! As someone paying for treatment, I would hope you would speak up for yourself and ask for a new assistant or if the current one could be more gentle.

I am also having my first consultation next week so I am curious to know more about this.
