Braces newly removed, teeth hitting each other

I got my braces off Monday, and picked up my retainers (clear invisalign style) Wednesday afternoon. I have been wearing them since I got them. It is now Friday and my lower left canine is hitting my upper lateral incisor. It's very slight contact, but obviously this should not be happening. Anyone ...

Thanks, I hope is it gone in a week! I have to drink through a straw and warm up the water before I brush my teeth.

cold sensitivity

After 6 months with a distalizer and 2 1/2 years in braces, I had all but 4 of my brackets removed and new brackets put on three days ago. Went from damon clear on top, metal on bottom to non self ligating brackets on top and bottom. Since the change I'm having major cold sensitivity on the lower ar...

Re: Need braces JUST to get jaw surgery?!?!

I did see one case of traumatic injury that resulted in a broken jaw. The patient had metal strips wire tied to her teeth individually. The metal strip was up near her gums. Both upper and lower jaws had that metal strip and that was wired together to hold the jaws in place. I'm not sure they'd do ...

Re: Top fixed braces

Get a second opinion, it's worth it even if you have to pay for it. It seems strange to me as well that he can't fix/improve a 5mm overjet. Open bites are trickier, though I've heard the problem is typically more in retention than in closing it initially.

Re: Prons and cons - which braces to choose

I have damon clear on my uppers and they are really nice, I think they are at or near the top of the different types of ceramic braces in terms of aesthetics. Of course they aren't invisible, but they are much less visible than metal. And, it's not so much that I want to hide that I have braces (tha...

Good for you, I hope I can adjust to it quickly too. I've read that they are controversial, but it seems like small potatoes compared to the surgery that some people go through.

Re: He tried to warn me...

Those spikes are in my treatment plan as well, totally dreading it. I found a research article that was encouraging to me: http://www.marquette.edu/dentistry/current/documents/StudentResearchGroup.pdf One of the cases they mention is an adult with a significant open bite and she ended up with a good...

Re: Is this normal or strange behavior for an orthodontist?

Some of the stuff you mentioned sounds a little weird/overly familiar. The physical stuff is what would concern me the most, and the two things you mentioned are open to interpretation. He could be a dirty old man or perhaps just not have a good understanding of professional boundaries. The good thi...

Re: Advice on overbite outcome after braces - anything I can

I agree with the previous poster, your teeth look like they bite together well, with perhaps a bit of a deep bite. I think your chin looks fine as well but its hard to tell from the pic.

Re: Would braces help a 12mm overjet - saw 3 ortho & am conf

I think its a good idea to discuss your concerns with the ortho who suggested braces. I think the hard part in making this kind of decision is that you don't know exactly what your teeth will look like afterwards. I have a huge overjet too (9-10 mm) and a mild open bite and was told I needed surgery...

Re: Permanent Retainers

Some people have both. I will have top and bottom permanent retainers, plus removable. I think the main disadvantage to permanent retainers is that is it more difficult to floss with them in.

Re: What would you consider a perfect smile?

I think your teeth look great, both before and after (but obviously better after). I do see what you are talking about though, particularly with your left side. It looks class II while the right side is class I. It's something I would bring up, maybe there is a reason he left it like that.

Re: Broken Jaw v. 2pc Lefort 1 surgery

Wanted to add that I'm sorry your sister isn't more supportive! I think its hard to understand how difficult it is to have something wrong with your jaw/mouth unless you've been through it yourself.
