Re: Should I at 58

I'd say go for it. Also, I'd just have the extraction--I think you're going to have better results than having a bunch of teeth shaved, and there's probably less likelihood of them getting something wrong. I had three premolars extracted for my braces, and while it was kind of traumatizing (I insist...

Re: New and getting braces soon

I could eat only soft or liquid foods for about six months after I got my braces, and even after that ended up swallowing a lot of things whole. But I still managed it, and now I'm about to get my braces off :) NINE DAYS.

Re: In Two Minds..

Yay! I started feeling a lot better about my teeth quite quickly. Once I felt I was actually *doing* something about my teeth, I lost all self-consciousness about smiling. When I started seeing positive changes in my incisors, I was *ecstatic*. There are very annoying things that go along with brace...

Re: Hello!

Yay for finishing ahead of schedule! I was at the ortho late last week and we made my braces-off appointment for the 20th.

I am SO EXCITED. 4 whole months early!

I have a de-bracing date

Hi guys--I sort of fell off the map for a while, but I thought I'd check back in and tell you all that after 20 months, 4 months early, I am getting my braces off on August 20th (if all goes well).

I am SO EXCITED.

Re: In Two Minds..

Oh--and I was 34 when I got mine. :) I went for golden brackets and I have loved them for two years and can't imagine going back to something that isn't a 14-karat smile.

Re: In Two Minds..

Two years ago I was pretty much where you are. I went for a consultation in August of 2010 and started the process in October by getting three teeth pulled. My brackets started going on in December of 2010 and they thought I'd be in braces for about 24 months. It was horrible and excruciating for th...

Re: Absolutely terrified about linguals

I have a narrow upper jaw and (used to have) an overbite, and my ortho told me that while jaw surgery would do things that just braces couldn't, I would get a very good result with just braces, which is what I chose. I didn't want jaw surgery. I am halfway through, and my teeth look great and my upp...

Re: anyone else have their Midline off?

My lower midline is off a little, and moving it hasn't been an enormous hassle. Mostly they just moved slowly things along, so you end up with some weird alternate crowding and spaces, but it's not a big deal, and nobody but you will notice. :)

Re: I'm 64 and just got braces.

I am only 36, and next month I will have had my braces on for a year! I can't believe it. It goes by very quickly. I had to eat soft foods for about six months after mine went on, but these days I'm pretty much okay. Regarding braces versus dentures or implants, my late husband always said that you ...

Re: 25 and about to get braces.

I've had my braces on for almost a year (OMG, how did that happen?!) and still after adjustments sometimes I have to eat soft food for a few days. In fact, I'm clearly going through a serious movement period, because my face hurts like whoa right now. However! You will notice movement so quickly tha...

Re: Colors for adults

I don't get coloured powerchains because I personally find them ugly, but when I have ligatures I always get colours. I've had dark red, dark blue, violet, lavender. Loved them all.

I'm 36 and teach college. :)

Re: newbie braced today with 6 month smiles

A lot of people like cold stuff, but I found that warm, soft food made my mouth feel a lot better when I was in that stage. I ate a LOT of soup. Also cream of wheat (oatmeal gets stuck in your braces). Grits would probably be nice too (I'm allergic to corn). A cup of tea or coffee is really nice. Al...

Re: Hello!!!!

Welcome!

I hope it turns out whatever way is best for you. I had a lower lateral incisor that was turned from the crowding in my mouth, and once it straightened out, I was kind of shocked that one side of it was noticeably more worn than the other. I think I got my braces on just in time.
