Re: Braced today...What do I need?
Congrats! I found ibuprofen, wax and a water pick to be very helpful right off the bat. I gave up the wax after a couple of weeks and I now only take ibuprofen right before an adjustment, but the water pick gets used 3 times a day. It not only cleans the teeth and brackets, but I think it feels grea...

Gorgeous result! And so fast! What hope you have given all of us. Does the IPR hurt or cause your teeth to be at all sensitive? I have to have it and I am just dreading it.

Re: New here and newly braced
Welcome to the site. The people here are so supportive. I agree that flossing is essential and it does get faster with practice, but I also cannot imagine having braces without the water pik. So many soft foods cling to the braces and it is nice to be able to rinse the food off before flossing. Your...

Re: How do orthos decide whether to use bands or brackets?
How interesting! I thought they only banded now when there was a large cavity or a crown that they feared the glue for the bracket would not attach to very well. But my husband, who had braces as a kid in the early 60s, had all of his teeth banded because that was just how they did it then.

Re: Teeth whitening
Sometimes I think that doctors don't tell you everything in the beginning, because they think you wouldn't go thru with it if you knew all the answers! So I had not heard that I might have to wait a month after debanding to get my teeth white again! Oh well, what's another month, right? I didn't rea...

Teeth whitening
I am already thinking ahead to the day when the braces come off. What type of whitening procedures, i.e. Crest home whitening versus dentist-administered Zoom whitening have you experts used after the braces come off? What has been successful without causing teeth to become sensitive to cold? Thanks ...

Re: Black Triangles After Braces/Gum Recession
I have been warned that I may have triangles when the braces come off. But isn't there a surgery that can move the gums in to fill in that space?

Re: Finally braced! Progress pics included
I, too, got braced yesterday and like you i can't chew a thing! I am older than you, 50, and am very relieved to hear that you are having chewing problems too. It has to get better, right? I am going to a mardi gras dinner tonight and I just hope there is something on the table that I can swallow! B...

Is it normal for bite to be off?
Ok, I just got braces put on yesterday, so I may be jumping the gun. The pain isn't bad, but I am surprised by how "off" my bite with my molars feels. I can't chew food back there because things are not meeting up. It seems the brackets on my eyeteeth are striking and stopping my molars fr...
