Re: Aetna vs CIGNA vs United vs BCBS

Cigna covered it all for me. It really does depend on the policy. Hopefully you can review the inclusions and exclusions before you have to commit for next year. Good luck.

Re: Over 2 years post-op & still have numbness/hypersensitiv

I had bsso in March and the numbness is going nowhere fast! I don't know if that tingling sensation when you rub finger across chin in a good or bad thing. Mine has been that way for a long time. I wish I knew if that meant improvement is near or if that is really what a "dead" nerve creat...

Re: Removal of plates and screws

Me Me Me! I just went through this. The incision on one side just wouldn't heal. Over and over again the Dr would tell me it still had drainage (lovely visual), clean it out with some kind of sulfur paste, and then give me an oral antibiotic. There was some slight swelling on outside that would not ...

Re: JUNE 2011 BUDDIES!!!!

They were removed in office. Dr said there was quite a bit infection on one side. He took out plates and screws on both sides because at 2.5 months out the bones were completely healed. I do hope you can get through your infections. I had 3 rounds of antibiotics which is more than enough to do the j...

Re: JUNE 2011 BUDDIES!!!!

thepseudophone, I am so sorry to hear about the problem with your hardware. I was there, had it cleaned, there again, there again, you get the idea. Finally yesterday dr took my plates out. He told me after the first problem there was a 50/50 chance we would need to remove them. I guess the odds did...

Re: Any adults in their 40's on here?

I am about 2.5 months post BSSO and see the 40s fast approaching. 1. This is my first surgery so I don't have a comparison, but I suspect age is slowing me down from getting back to "completely, 100% normal". I can't put my finger on what is off. I have no pain and the outside world thinks...

Re: MARCH 2011 BUDDIES

... As far as numbness goes...I'm still numb on the left side of my chin and left side of my lip. However it is not like before. It doesn't feel like I'm wearing a mask, so it doesn't bother me as much. Tomorrow is week 9. Yesterday was 2 months for me. Sounds like you're recovering very well. The ...

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!

I had to respond to the 3 of you. I am so sorry you feel so bad! i think i am week 8. I wanted to let you know that first week is bad. It is just a complete pile on of problems, some expected and some completely random. I personally think it would be much more manageable if you could sleep. I believ...

Re: MARCH 2011 BUDDIES

Ok it looks as if I win the title of Oldest March Buddy at age 38. I am 3 weeks and a day post BSSO to correct a crossbite and slight assymetry. My swelling has gone down much more on one side that the other. It looks strange. Has anyone else ever heard of this? And, the dr is adamant my midlines ar...

freaky - I hope you don't mind the nickname! I feel your pain. I am so sorry you are going through this. All I can say is it does get better. I looked at your blog and I also think the swelling is down a bit. I remember thinking I was doing great around day 3 and 4 then around maybe 6-8 I hit a wall...

Re: How long did you take off work for recovery?

This was one of my biggest questions. My dr said that most of his patients with bsso and office jobs need 2 weeks off. I didn't think this would be enough after everything I saw on YouTube (did not know about this board until night before surgery). I went back to work at 2 weeks this week and worked...

Re: MARCH 2011 BUDDIES

Freaky, you can always whine here! You have made it through some tough times. I know you are ready for recovery but you will get there! i am not sure the progression is a straight line, but it comes and goes. I had a day last week where I was really in the dumps... I would call the dr. He may have s...
